Piggy Defense by Yskuma

[raw]
made by Yskuma for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Defend the pig.

Build turrets using a modular system and see if it's enough to clear the level.

Guns need ammo loaded into them so a minimum working turret goes: Gun -> Loader -> Ammo Box.

Something like this will get you through the first level:

If you can't get through a level try a different design.

I loved the building system, it's original! I had fun playing it for a bit good job!

Your modular building system is very well done, the idea isn't super original but the execution is on point, there's a lot of potential for an addictive game if there were more buildings

Save the piggy, save the world !
Modular towers is a good idea.
Enemies need an HPbar or some indication of what is needed to kill them.

I like the idea, and realy want to understand how to play it, but game just dont told how to play it. I get how to place guns, and finished few levels, but i don't know if im doing it right. Some interface improvements would help a lot, like showing damage and fire rate before you start level. Great job either way!

Thanks for the comments folks.

We really wanted a display of how the turret stats were changing as you were building but ran out of time. We also wanted to show a list/stats for the wave that's coming.

A hitpoint bar is a good idea too!

The building principle is really nice. Maybe inspired by Factorio ? I love this kind of games and when you have understood it, it can be very fun to play. The graphics are simple but they do the job.

I loved it :purple_heart: ! As some already said, some more interface and information would be a great improvement. I only beat three levels, but I had a good time playing your game and figuring how to place my defenses.

Although it took me a little while to figure out how to play, this game was great fun! It's got a lot of levels and I spent a lot of time figuring out the best configurations for levels. The UI is very basic but it does the job.

Good job, harder to understand everything than it should be but once you figure it out it's fun to play.

 Cool and quite complex idea for a tower defense! Well done! :D

 The tiles on which you can build are a bit small... It would be a good idea to make them larger!

 The targeting algorithm the towers use feels a bit weird...?

 Did the game crash after I ran out of lives or was it closing itself intended?

:bulb: A restart key would be very useful for Ludum Dare testers that mess up their design :P

@steffo Thanks for the feedback, all good points. We realised in the last few hours while testing that the build tiles are too small but didn't want mess about with the code so close to the end.

Turrets target the nearest enemy, they should probably target the enemy closest to the danger area.

Er, nope. There should be infinite lives and 10 levels... :worried:

A restart button is also a good idea!

I love the turret building system !
And maybe the possibility to build your turrets wherever you want but add cost to turret's part ?
Very good game :)
