Airplane Mode by caps_unlocked

[raw]
made by caps_unlocked for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

For our "Keeping It Alive" game we decided to make a game where your phone is quickly dying in an airport. You must try to find a phone charger and an outlet so that you can charge it before it dies. You win the game when you get the phone up to 100% battery.

Unfortunately we did not get to finish our game before the deadline. Most of our team members had finals and exams during the gamejam period. However we still have enough to make a demo. If you enjoyed it, we will be releasing a complete version of this game in the future.

Controls:

Move- W,A,S,D / Left Stick
Sprint- SHIFT / L1 / Left Bumper
Jump- SPACE / Triangle / Y
Interact- E / X / A
Switch Items- Scroll Wheel / D-pad
Look at phone- Right Click / R2 / Right Trigger

Use a controller at your own risk!

You can... and it might work, but it will most likely just mess up your input. Sorry, we tried to add support but ran out of time. If you are experiencing any weird issues, try unplugging your controller.

These are our youtube channels (and twitter), any future updates about this game (and our upcoming projects) will probably be posted here:

Couldn't play! As soon as I loaded in, my view shot straight up and I couldn't get it to stay down.

A funny game which is fun for a bit, Not much of a goal though, maybe if you get it to full charge you get a new app or something which acts like an upgrade

@scott-steffes Did you have a controller plugged in? We added support for certain controllers and it may be detecting input from one.

its amazing how lively you made this airport feel!
had a frustrating time trying to climb the beams and i couldnt find all items but had fun talking to everyone and exploring dialogue. (Was that a Call of Duty reference on the elevator?)

@zevsehg thanks! We plan on finishing it sometime soon. Now just isn't a good time because we had to balance the development of this game with studying for finals. I'm probably gonna release a video on my youtube channel when its done and we will definitely post it on itch.io

We didn't get to put in nearly as much as we wanted, the full game will have a lot more to do.

This game really stood out as innovative. I also loved the graphic style. The people were simple, but functional. The airport told me that you probably have spent a lot of time in airports. Music was perfect for the environment of the game. And the fork in the outlet was hilarious. This game jam entry is really great. I wish you the best of luck.

Hilarious! Loved seeing all the easter eggs. The airport felt like a real thing (crowds, workers, airplanes, shops). Really nice attention to details. The game works because the mechanic of finding outlets makes you want to explore, and explore is fun on its own because of all the cool stuff to see. Gun guy definitely wants pizza though. Thanks for sharing!

Nice job! I almost got the phone to full charge but ended up using the outlets for too long and frying them. I really enjoyed seeing the AI do random flips and run all over the place. Keep up the good work!

Platforming is kinda floaty, but overall this was a funny and surprising little game. Loved it!

Nice game and great idea. I spent too much time and couldn't complete the game as all plugs had been destroyed.

Well as you might now I got controler issue too, but without that it's nice entry team. The gameplay is interesting and ambiance is here. Guess might do some improve in that way keep it up ! Good job !

@jake-marks Thanks for playing! I hope you liked it! The platforming was a bit of a last minute decision so that there was a way to win the game. We will keep working on the character controller and the path you have to take so that it's smoother and more fun. So try it again soon if you get a chance!

I had the most fun playing your game so far. The only problem with it are the bugs but I guess that's the part of the style in a way. Overall very cool game.

I like the concept behind this one because I had a college project with the same premise a few years back. You've done it much better than I did though!

It's broken for ultrawides, had to change my resolution to be able to read dialogues.

Very humourous game! Had a little bit of a hard time with the frame rate, made jumping on the beams near impossible, loved the humour and the take on the theme. The mood is great, really good job on the airport/level design. Well done! - JS

Great atmosphere and really fun to explore. I'd love to see something done with the gold outlet and the wrench (the guy said he gave me a wrench, but there was no item)

@lex Thank you for the feedback, we will add support for all monitors in the final release. It can be kinda tricky to test all of those things because we all have the same size monitor, lol

@teamjs Sorry to hear you had framerate issues. We will look into the framerate for the final release. Maybe it has something to do with your computer specs? We really only tested this game on our own computers.

@brenno263 Yeah.. sorry about that. I added the guy who says "here is a wrench" but I didn't have time to add the wrench. I was planning to wait to publish the build, but I guess SOMEONE on our team published it prematurely.

@caps-unlocked definitely low specs on my end, but looking at the game, I think there is probably some optimizations that could be done to help it out, so you don't have to have a beefy computer to play. Regardless, good work!

Nice game, but who the hell puts a fork in an electrical outlet?

@oillen The mainstream media tells us not to put forks in outlets or toasters in bathtub. Only a true first amendment auditor would dare to question authority enough to put a fork in an outlet. We salute those who serve this country.

Thanks for the nice review!

The game creates a fun sense of people roaming around in an airport. The platforming part was fun and unexpected for me, also as a fellow CoD player I tip my hat for that easter egg)

This is amazing! This is the most relatable game I played for LDJAM

Love how bad-but-good the art is. Impressive work for 72 hours. I think I had a bug, I climbed up the beams and met the worker on top, he said he's giving me the wrench, but I never got it. Never appeared in my inventory.

@kolkav glad you noticed ;) thanks for playing! @notke Thanks a lot! We were unable to finish that part but we will continue to work on this game and upload a complete version later on.

@lukas-shiley please don't change the artstyle! It's great! Just add more features and shops and interactions

Wow, I love it! Solid concept, got a little bit of adventure mechanics with the wrench thing (he didn't give me the wrench though...) and it's fun to run around looking for functional outlets. My favorite thing is probably the carpet. I think the weakest link is either the lack of sound effects or the funny looking humans (humans are hard!) But thanks for making a fun and funny game!
