Keep IT-Support Alive! by debuggerpls

[raw]
made by debuggerpls for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

So glad this is finally over! No wonder everyone keeps telling that there is never enough time.. Still pretty sure about my first game. No external assets were used. Just plain old 3Days of suffering.

Explore the building fixing stuff before you get outsourced.

Goals:

  • Fix all computers in the building without getting touched by the Boss. You can evade other employees by sitting on the couch (hold Spacebar). Locked doors require keys that have the same color as the door knob. There a quite a few stupid lines so make sure to interact with things more than once :D

Move:

  • A+D or Arrow Keys

Interact:

  • Spacebar (Hold Spacebar to sit and get past enemies!)

Cool first game! I like the idea of being an I.T worker. However, it was a little difficult to find out what to do at first.

Great job! :) I had fun playing it! I couldn't get past the manager man though! Would have been good to use the bottom part to give hints as to what to do to overcome him

Funny little game. Only criticism is some of the sounds were a little harsh on my ears; but super minor. Some of the humor was pretty funny! Great job

Great concept, nice flavor and mix of things to interact with.

I kept getting outsourced by the person in the suit and never got around them:

Great game, but how is one supposed to know that it has to sit on the sofà to get unnoticed by the "guards"???

Great game, good job for your first LD ! It was my first too, so yeah that was hard ^^.
Cool idea to make the MC invisible when on a couch (it’s true too !).

Funny game, sound effects could be toned down a little, they were kinda harsh

Fun concept, congrats on your first Ludum Dare! I love the multiple unique sentences for each interaction. I'm not sure how to pass the manager though, so I'll never see the top floor! It'd be cool if the characters moved from floor to floor, and either the elevators could go to more than one floor or there was a way to get around them

That was quite fun! Nice level design and pleasant graphics. And I positively adore your interpretation of the theme  . Great work overall! Congrats on your first jam. You will grow to love the suffering

Some background music would really add to the atmosphere.

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to try it out! That harsch lightswitch sound I noticed only after uploading it, so sorry for that (somehow in unity it was ok..). I appreaciate your comments and tips!

Interesting game. At the start I didn't realize those are floors until I saw the lift. It was interesting concept with those lights turning the rooms on, I was always looking forward to the next room. I wasn't able to get past the guy I didn't find a way how to do that. Great job!

Very silly and fun concept, with fun and elaborate art and animation. Really nice work there. I couldn't figure out any way to avoid people in the hall, which meant I pretty much insta-lost on the third floor each time I played. I'm sure I'm missing something. I tried going through with the lights off or waiting in the elevator, but I always hit him. I enjoyed the conversations at the bottom while I played. Some of the art layering was weird - I had the graffiti sprayed on my guy sometimes. Very good humor throughout.

Thanks for the comments. I updated the simmer.io site and here, but maybe its not showing: **you can sit on the couch to get unnoticed by enemies!**

Hey, so I really like the simplicity of the rules and actually the game design / level design worked really well. For the first entry, great job! I did not find the last computer fix which was a bummer.

Good game and a smart take on the theme. You did well to use simple mechanics and interactions. Still you got an unexpected amount of puzzles out of the simple mechanics. Overall impressive for a game that is both your first and a solo game.

Fun concept but I found the gameplay to be rather frustrating. I tried sitting on the couch to avoid the manager but it just gave a harsh error sound and the guy wouldn't sit. On the topic of sound, it was overall a rather unpleasant experience. I think some softer sound effects for interacting with things, as well as some background music could really improve the game.
I will say though, there is some fun humor here and the hand-drawn art is very charming!

Thanks for the reviews. I fully agree that the audio is terrible. I never did a full game before and naturally wanted to do too many things without the ability to do it. I slept for 4 hours every day and still there is no sound and only one level with no sitting animation, but still really happy to participate in LD!

Congratulations on your successful participation in LDJAM! Of course, there is a lot to improve on, such as animation, sounds, music,... But I think the core gameplay with its accessible design was very appealing. Everything radiated some nice donkey kong vibes. In addition to accessibility, I think your puzzles were well deisigned and fun to solve.
The art was well executed and the background story was fun.

Very entertaining and an interesting idea. I liked how you thought outside of the box (the spare parts box perhaps?) for Keep IT alive. Nice entry!

Cool Entry!!! Missing some audio for ambience and music to increase the humour and dictates the rhythm of the game! Remembers a lot of the IT crowd Series!

Interesting concept and some nice humor. The whole sitting on the couch to not get noticed mechanic would be a lot clearer if the character actually sat on the couch when you press space.

Nice job on the jokes! Took 3 tries to beat it; ran into each boss once.

Fun take the theme with good humor. I agree it would be nice if the character actually sat on the couch. I was very confused my first time I needed to sit down because I was holding space and thought the character wasn't responding.

I die every time I crash into the suit dude :( What to be learn: never try to approach a dude with suit! Fun little gem, seemingly realistic presentation of IT work.
