The Core by NoobException

[raw]
made by NoobException for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

Finally! My third Ludum Dare. I feel like this game is a little bit better than my previous ones.

Anyhow, game was made using: - Unity - LMMS, Audacity - Inkscape, MSPaint

It ain't much, but it's honest work! Thanks for all feedback and have a nice play.

Fun game I like the art style, but the ship turns a little to slow making it hard to shoot enemies.

@fallingflatstudios
Thanks a lot!
I kinda thought the same but it turns out to work that only in HTML version and I have no idea for a workaround :slight_frown:

Love the minimal aesthetic. The responsiveness issue is basically the only gripe I have with this.

As for bugs, there was one instance of an enemy spawning off in the far north and I never saw them appear.

Great work and congrats on finishing.

Aside from rotating too slowly, I think you could've made the bullets bigger and holding to shoot.

Slow turns makes hard to protect.
Add a shoot sound makes a difference!
Anyway good work!
Do have a try on my entry for ld46! ;)

I love minimalist artstyle, it look nice.. Rotating of the ship is a bit slow and when there are more enemies it could be a bit frustrating - maybe it would be more fun if I could aim by mouse. Anyway, well done, it looks and feels solid. Cool entry!

I like the minimalistic approach to UI and graphics. Overall looks very nice and works well. The UI transition is a nice touch. And music is quite decent as well. The only problem for me is the control, which feels a bit chunky.

Controls are a bit difficult go grasp, but really like the minimalistic style. :)

This game made me realize how bad I really am at some games, but the game felt nice, smooth, responsive to play and I really enjoyed my time playing it! The graphics are really simple and it adds a lot to the overall game feel.

Cool arcade game, loved the minimal aesthetics and the powerups around the map was a nice incentive to not stay put next to the core. Good job!

The design and transitions were cool! I found movement and shooting hard to grasp at the start but after a few more goes I started to get the hang of it and wanted to keep playing. Good work!

Pleasing minimalist look. I found the ship a little difficult to control. It seemed like it kept turning after I had let go of the key, which gave me some difficulty lining up the shots.

What I liked in this game:

1) Art design is quite appealing

2) The music is atmospheric

3) Solid base for old school gameplay

What I think needs improvment:

1) Sprites are blurry on big screens, bigger resolution for sprites will improve the look of the game immensely.

2) Controls. It is hard to hit someone when you fly around. I managed to stay much longer when I just sayed still and shot at the direction where enemies were to appear. That is because you fly to fast and turn too slow.

3) Reason to explore the space around. Right now there is no reason to fly around. Sure, you will get more points and heal your core or make it invunerable for some time, but if you just stay, you will live longer, and thus, get higher score, as I staded above.

Summary:
With little technical and gamedesign improvements that will become solid old school arcade.

Very nice art. The game is very polished! The game is fun, but the movement does not feel great. Why should I move because I just stayed in the core and spun around firing bullets? Over all great game, and good job!

Nice game, the controls were a bit hard with some kind of acceleration in the rotation and the ship was moving pretty fast too. Cool minimalist art and good effort with the music and visual feedbacks (particles etc...) Good job !

Nice, clean and minimalistic art style. Music and SFX nicely done and implemented. Gameplay is fun although the player's control are bit hard. Overall a fun game, would probably be a good mobile casual game.

Nice art style and main menu transition, love that. Gameplay pretty simple and controls feels strange, personally I prefer mouse for rotating and shooting and WASD for moving
