Mad Sorcerer's Garden by AsgardHeavy

[raw]
made by AsgardHeavy for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

Protect the Tree of Immortality with a garden of malevolent plants and an army of the newly dead.

First GameJam -- turns out I REALLY underestimated how much time it takes to make even decent Art, let alone good Art. Also, UI is the worst. Game is MVP -- there were some neat things I coded that I didn't have enough time to implement the assets for in even a stub form, which is a bummer. Still, I had a blast putting it together!

Hope you enjoy for approximately... oh... 2 minutes.

Nice job for a first game jam! I too participated in my first jam and I completely agree that making art for a game is an EXTREMELY difficult task, especially under a time constraint. Overall, nice game with a cool concept.

Not bad! The art was totally readable and that's good enough for me. I liked the concept and think you did a pretty good job for your first jam! Time is the ultimate enemy :( It slips away so fast.. especially for the compo!

Cool game :). Was refreshing to see the tutorial baked into the game.
Love the concept; theme was spot on.
I think there's a lot of potential here, just wish it was longer!

Great job! :D
I totally agree, game jam art is hard, but I think you did really well given the time constraints, especially for your first jam. I liked the concept and the sound effects were a really nice touch.

Did you also start learning Godot just for this compo ? Small git tip : use a .gitignore file to avoid pushing .import and .mono folders that aren't really code but more build artefacts

This is my second compo and time is always hard to manage. Congratz on getting such a neat result on your first compo ! If you want to avoid having unusable features due to missing art maybe include art in your MVP mindset and use placeholder minimal art . But then you'll probably end up with only your bad placeholder art like me

I enjoyed your original take on the TowerDefense genre, I liked the plants growing and withering : that was pretty cool.

Not really sure what was going on, the seeds seemed to work but the obstacles didn't and what was the 3rd button? Perhaps a skip option on the tutorial. That said, it had a fresh atari vibe which I liked.

I don't really what I was doing, but I won twice :O
Also I only noticed that you had 2 ressources "seeds" and "magic" and it was not the quantity of each spells I could cast :p

Don't bash yourself for the art, it's pretty clear and more that enough ! :D

Well done for your very first entry !

Compo is really, really hard! You got a working game out of it, with sound and graphics so you didn't have to opt out of any rating categories. That's alone is an achievement so good job!

We both know with more time in the oven it could be cooler but I enjoyed the two minutes I spent with it.

Hi!! Nice game! I like the mechanicss and the inn-game tutorial was great. A lot of gamejam entries miss the tutorial. The little con Ifound it's the font of the tutorial, it was difficult to read!
But Great game Congratulations!

I really like this game! It's great how you prioritized getting a proper tutorial implemented. The music and sound design was great, loved the blueeegh the townsfolk blurt out when damaged. The dialogue is not long but effective in establishing a lighthearted and humorous mood. I think that with more time this game can be really fun. Do reach out if you keep working on it!
