Harvest Season by Devesh Sharma

[raw]
made by Devesh Sharma for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

Keep Your Garden Alive!

You need to keep your garden healthy and green with decorative plants, keep yourself wealthy with cash crops and defend your garden from farmers with defensive plants! Learn to balance all of those and you will master the game

NOTE -: I saw alot of comments saying the game is too hard and they could not finish levels so 1st of all, the levels are endless in case you wonder. And Sorry but I didn't get the time to playtest the levels except the first few season of the first level, so they game is not very balanced. Cover.png ss1.PNGss2.PNGss4.PNGss3.PNG

A unique and fun twist on the tower defense genre that really made you feel the struggle in keeping your garden alive. I like the balance between having to place cheap items and protecting them from the waves.

Great game! Quite hard though, but alot of well-executed content for a jam-game! Well done!

This game kinda remembers me Plants vs Zombies game, but tower defense like. You know your game has a lot of potential, if you made post processing, changed color of text on buttons to black(because I can't see what is on buttons),made some story to your game, and made gameplay a little bit fast or fast forward button, and progress saving, this will be cool indie game!!!

The game had great atmosphere and was fun to play. I'm not sure what the inspiration for the art style was, but it reminded me of the movie "The Secret of Kells" (probably because of all the green haha). I do wish the tutorial was more then just words, I think having an interactive one could have helped me understand the game quicker, it wasn't till I started playing that I understood it. Overall, great game!

Very nice tower defense game, it's really satisfying to see the plants attack other farmer and permit to survive to the next wave. You should continue this game !

I found it impossible to pass even the first level? It seemed like the turrets didn't fire fast enough, or do enough damage. Perhaps if it took a bit longer for the farmers to steal the crops instead of it happening as soon as they touch them, it might have been a bit more forgiving.

I like the use of needing to balance the greenery with the defence, I think that has real potential as an idea. Not just being able to build the strongest towers, but having to take into account the gardening aspect too.

Intersting game but too slow.
- The tutorial is a help file, not a tutorial and I had to quit the game 3 times to go back and read it again so I could try and work out what was going on. Having it available in the game would help a lot, as would having the veg's info available on the veg so you can tell what they are.
- 5 waves of attack are too many. You don't have enough resources to build a complete defence so once one defensive veg is gone you've lost.

Shows promise but needs more work.

Many things are great about this game:

- It's fun!
- It's Puzzly!
- It's pretty, and the main menu has a great spinning background!
- It executes just fine on a potato pc ;)
- It's challenging
- It's the compo! not just a jam game. very impressive for the amount of time given.
- it has music! but the music disappears during game, bummer.

Drawbacks:

- I can't do anything but watch while a season is happening. And it takes a long time for 5 waves to occur. In fact, this entire response is being written with the game running in the background.

- Low variety in terms of types: everything is towers, and most towers just shoot. Status effects or specialized buildings would have been nice.

- Great variety: within the towers you do have, there are a lot of options and limited positioning makes the game more puzzle-y

Honestly a great game though, will be playing for a while to hopefully finish all the levels :)

One thing to mention first, the game is really hard (or I suck at playing it), the artwork is nice and i liked the way the button works, the gameplay is pretty interesting but if I could see a better display of the flowers would make it a lot better, also you could change the tutorial test color, is quite hard to read. But, making this project alone and in 2 days is really surprising! Great work!

@generalsturgeon , @joeshanahan , @marcelo-zoletti The levels are endless so there is no completing it. And really sorry but I didn't have time to playtest all levels except the first few seasons of the first level, so its not very balanced.....

A good and fun game! As another person said I would say sometimes it takes too long during the waves because you have nothing to do but watch. And yeah the text tutorial was a bit hard to remember. But still it's a great game, well done.

The main menu sucked me in immediately with the rotating background. I lost the first time pretty quickly but it was fun figuring out the best strategy. Patience was rewarded. Tomatoes make good vertical cover since their slow projectiles need less distance to travel. They operate well from the inside and not so much as a first defense. That goes to watermelons, which require light artillery support from peas and a tomato here and there.

I had an idea for a kind of plant, a painter plant which increases a target's visibility so that they can be hit from farther away.

The music, while simple, had good instrumentation and I found myself humming along. What software did you create the music and sounds with?

@sandra-jasionowska I would love to do so but I don't have wifi so I have installed unity with its offline setup, which only supports windows builds

Great job for just 12 hours! As others have said, balance could do some work but that's a challenge for everyone in Ludum Dare.

really good job and surprising amount of depth for a game made in that your timeframe! but purely as a game its riddled with bugs and lacks polish, one big problem though is the time it takes waiting between waves and watching everything play out so slowly. the big fun in this kinds of games is making the defenses and adapting them as things get harder so to much time between will make for a tedious experience. still really great job with the limits you played with and hope to see more soon!

@devesh-sharma it seems like alot of people missed that too, probably should work on that. there were alot of things that even after the tutorial were unclear which is perfectly understandable for a compo game though if you plan on expanding it later those are things you should definitely work on. did not deduct points for that because of the limits. hope to see this game developed further if you plan on doing so!

Nice game! I liked the idea of balancing future revenue generation with defensive capabilities. I agree the balancing could use some work - in the future maybe try only a single level so that you have less to try to balance? I also missed some stuff that was in the tutorial - I had a hard time reading it. It might help to pull that text into the description above where it will be easier to read and people can keep it open with the game. I saw on Itch you only had 12-14 hours on this. I'm impressed you got this far in that short of time! I think you had a good base and if you had more time you could have added a lot of polish
