Time is Ticking by RicardoEPRodrigues

[raw]
made by RicardoEPRodrigues for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

You die. You respawn. Your body is now a block to jump on! Can you get to all the babies?

To control the main character use the arrow/wasd keys, space bar to jump and F to suicide, leaving a block where you died so you can traverse the level. Careful, you can only have 5 blocks at the same time! You will also die if the timer expires, so be fast! If you mess up, you can restart the level in the menu. The goal of each level is to get to the baby.

All art and sound design was created by us and it was made using Unreal Engine.

I like the concept of turning your previous loses into a future win. The art style is also nice and what made me play the game. However, the jump feels off. When I jump in the game my horizontal velocity is locked and cannot be adjust in mid air. This made the game harder then it should be and was really frustrating. Also, what is the theme of the game. Why does the alien collect babies, what is he going to do with them?

Overall it was really cool, however there were once when dying near the end of the level caused the front chests to disappear, and when filling the front other chests would disappear one by one, which was quite difficult.

@xiyou Hey, thank you for playing! There's a limit of 5 blocks. When you die for the 6th time, the first block disappears, which adds a layer of difficulty and makes you more thoughtful about where you place them. If you really screw up, there's an option to restart the level in the menu =)

I enjoyed the gameplay and graphics and appreciated the audio being all done on your own. I only had an issue with the jumping if I tried to do so prior to moving it seemed.

It's a fun concept to build levels around.
There's one issue I ran into though:
When you already have 4 or 5 blocks placed in a level, then fall off a ledge, this can mess up your block setup, and you basically have to place 5 new blocks, as they are replaced one by one.

Thanks for the game!

The game is actualy pretty funny. Love the sounds :) Add a timer sound. I think five seconds before death. Without it, it's pretty easy to forget that time is limited :)

I really enjoy the mixe of the various graphics's style. Also to have a menu,... well made. The downside, the installation install .Net, directX, and some stuff (but all is propose automatically).

I could not stop laughing at the sounds xD That's a 5 rating in audio for sure! Really cute graphics as well, great submission all around!

Nice little game. Cool graphics and nice sound effects. The concept is not the most original and the platforming felt quite odd(maybe because you can't move in the air), but other than that a pretty good submission.

The idea is good, and I did had fun trying the game. There are some issues with boxes, that sometimes moves weirdly around. But overall is a pretty fun little jam game.

I second what other people have said about the jumps being off. That made the movement feel sluggish and made me often miss jumps that would then require me to redo my entire block setup. Aside from that and the lack of music, I enjoyed it. It's a good concept, and it's fun trying to set up your blocks. Maybe telling the player that there's a limit of 5 or letting them choose which block will be destroyed would help reduce setup time.
