Bug Smashers! (HTML5) by Plopmenz

[raw]
made by Plopmenz for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

Your friend, Chad, just wrote his first piece of code! He is so proud he uploaded it to your server. Unfortunately Chad's code is full of bugs :(. All these bugs slow down your server. You as "professional bug fixer" should try and keep the server alive by fixing them asap! Every bug alive reduces your framerate, the server crashes when you reach 0 FPS. Try and survive for as long as possible :).

I really enjoy the fact that the actual FPS gets worse as you get more bugs hahaha. One thing I would say is that the movement feels a bit fast, fast to the point where I didn't actually know if my FPS was actually decreasing so I waited until I could get to 1 FPS and then I felt the lag. Like the music! The bullets remind me of that one GTAV mod where instead of shooting bullets, you shoot cars.

Haha, this was a lot more fun than I expected. The irony of the game makes the gameplay > artwork. Super good idea, good job bro.

Really nice! And that you actually coupled the FPS of the game with the story!

Neat music as well. I managed to keep it up for 212.42 seconds, 519 bugs smashed.

Well done!

Despite simple art, the gaameplay is actually nicely done and fun. This is such a creative idea for a game, well done.

The movement feels way too fast, but otherwise this is a really solid entry. Good job.

This is a cute idea, and aside from the speed comments mentioned above, was indeed fun. Murdering a giant swarm of bugs huddled in the corner was a satisfying highlight.

Haha actually using FPS as a game mechanic was genius. I was wondering for a while what the point of the game was until the FPS started dropping and I knew I was heading towards the end. Bonuskudos for putting time into making your game hard to quit.

Quite funny! As an idea I like that the fps actually goes down, but for me it makes the game nauseating very fast (but no surprise there, I usually don't cope well with low/uneven fps), so I had to just give up after certain point and let the bugs finish it. Also there seems to be some issues with the collisions (if you are standing back against a wall and shooting away from it, the bullets still collide wit the wall)

I liked that the bullets were bug-fixing/debugging snippets, but hoped there would be more of those. Love the menu art!

I love the idea of visualizing the bugs to the bugs and it becomes hard to control when the bugs are too many. That is creative!

Fun game. I haven't seen fps dropping used as a mechanic in game anywhere. Quite innovative, liked it :)

"Oh no, the game can't handle all these bu-..." followed by a moment of clarity.

It was a really cute idea. The shooting and movement felt really good.

Graphics really put me off. Why is the quit button not available? I liked that the bullets are actual commands and the FPS getting lower. Good game!

Man, Chad should really get stop getting his self-replicating bugs everywhere. At this point I'm pretty sure he's doing it on purpose!

It took me a moment to get that the FPS getting lower is part of the game, haha. Really cute idea!

Oh, and the quit button took me so much by surprise that I actually laughed out loud for the first time while playing this batch of LD games.

It was actually way better then I thought it would! The game feels very snappy and fun! I also like how the actual FPS lowers! Good job!

Things that could be improved:
* I discovered a strategy that worked very well: run through the borders, then kill the clusters on the center and repeat. This turned the game into a resistance one, where the only factor that made me lose was that my hand was tired of clicking xD. If you let the player hold the mouse button to hit continually and if the respawns got a little faster, like, every 10 seconds, it would make the game more skill-based and it won't cause hand pains on the player hehe.

Things that I liked:
* The music is very soothing.

* It's very humorous, the quit button escaping from me, the FPS slowing down and eventually crashing the computer, it was very funny and creative!

* The graphics are simple but nice, the lights were a nice touch to it.

* The minimap was a really nice addition, I was playing looking more at it than to the main screen!

Overall a really fun game, but gave me hand pain haha.

Nice approach to the jam theme! The movement controls at first felt too fast, but I got used to it. Nice job!

I like the idea of the framerate intentionally dropping to show how bad things are getting . It's interesting. Nice game!
