ALPHA PAPA ECHO by jamesterjim

[raw]
made by jamesterjim for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Our loveable giant ape friend is under attack, and it is down to you to help him out! Defend him with your life by surviving rounds of enemy fighters to gain points and, most importantly, to discover the power of friendship from fighting for your monkey ally. Take caution though, the army doesn't surrender that easy so it may be a rough ride out there! Do you have what it takes to protect Kong’s innocence from the power hungry dogs of the military?

This game was made for the Ludum Dare Jam 46. This has been our first attempt for a game jam and we have all worked incredibly hard to produce this game for you to play. These are hard times we are living in right now and we hope that our goofy little game will bring a little bit of joy to you during all of this. Any feedback is welcome and we really hope you have fun zooming around this game shooting bad guys to defend a giant monkey.!

Great jam you did there, particularly impressed with the sound effects, adding epicness to perillous maneuver! Controls are not so easy as I kept rolling in every way possible. Awesome models as well! I crashed my plane during the third wave, those tanks are tough little things !

Had some real fun flying around, bit hard to get on their tail but enjoyed it!

Really cool game and loved the art style! Hitting the tanks was a bit tricky but flying in the city was cool. Could maybe do with some sort of auto leveling when turning.

Really nice game guys! I like the idea of defending Kong instead of attacking it, clever twist. Nice use of colors, and I also Like the use of depth with the enemies that fly away and then come back. Loved the sfx. The only thing I had problems with were the flying controls, they were a bit difficult to use (not being already a keyboard fan myself) so I think it would be better to play it with the mouse. In the end really good job!

Looks and sounds great! Love the design of the island. Shooting down the planes is hard but maybe I just need practice

Definitely took a round or two to get the hang of controls, but felt fun overall! A pretty funny idea and the low poly looked great.

it does look greatly!!! I did enjoy playing the game for a while, however I think the level of difficulty was.... hmmm... a little bit more harder than what I would have wished. Still a nice game

Oh, what an amazing surprise! It reminded me those days playing "Secret weapons of the Luftwaffe"!
Very well implemented, I felt like Chuck Yeager!
The global scale is perfect, it makes it really easy to learn to fight. The feel of the game is also good and the enemies really seem like they are fighting!

Fun game! Love the style, music, and gameplay. I wish the enemies were a little bigger, and that the core loop was a little shorter. Amazing work!

Cool take on the theme!

Has an old-school vibe to it. Very fun once you can get used to the controls.
Having done a flying game in a past jam, it's one of the trickiest things to get right. You did great considering the limited time.

I would have loved an option to invert pitch, and I'm personally used to A and D for Yaw and Q and E for Roll.

I love the interactive tutorial in the menu! And the difficulty seems well balanced.

The idea, graphics and music is all really good. The controls is not bad, but it is really difficult follow and hit the airplanes. Overall is this a fun little jam game.

It was fun flying around, and looking at the island. Took a little bit to get used to the controls. But shooting felt good and it is really satisfying to hit an enemy. Especially from from away. Very well done!

Nice little game :) I am missing some kind of aim assist or guided-missile because I'm really bad at these games but the graphics are cool and the idea is really neat !
Good job !

Really good, driving is arcade but in that case thats better, interpretation of the theme is cool and i like the low poly graphic style.ennemys plane is difficult to aim but the life of the gorilla is huge and fall slowly. Good job!

The game looks really nice and is a nicely done dog fight game. Controls are quite hard to master though. Having the plane rotation controlled by the mouse would have been easier to play I think, although it is mitigated by the huge hit box of enemies.

Design is really nice, graphics and sound fits well together. plane's trail really helps spotting enemies at long range but it is very hard to aim that far.

This was really fun! Thanks for adding yaw controls, sometime people forget that, making it impossible to fly. Would be really cool to have different weapons (missiles etc) or other types of planes to fight or fly. Thanks for submitting :)

Fun Game! Easy to understand and I got the feel for the plane and how it controls pretty fast although it was a bit heavy to handle! I wish there was a button for boost or slow to have a bit better handle over the plane. If you could fix that then adding more enemies and being able to handle them would be possible. I think that would make the game more engaging and fun. Overall, I had a good time playing it! Well done! :D

That was fun, really pleasant atmosphere and the shooting was quite satisfying, with the dispersion and sound. Controls were a bit fast turning, i'd love mouse support.
I love the idea that you protect the ape instead of shooting it. The city had a nice building variety and layout, i really like it.

Well I was not expecting flight sim from this LD :D Nice job! It was just as difficult as dogfighting is. Fine graphics and music. Always nice to play first person simulators like this.

Wow! I love flight games so this is my jam, super loved:
- the feedback when you get a hit on an enemy
- the mix of air and ground targets
- this pretty big city you put together with a decent amount of stuff to look at
- that big goofy king kong model. Great interpretation of the theme hehe

Died on wave 5 after trying to do an aerobatic trick, jokes on me

Nice gameplay, but the background audio was a bit annoying. It would have been nice to rotate the view around the plane.

@jupiter-hadley wow thankyou so much for including our game in your video! it was really interesting to see how other people play the game in comparison to how we've been playing it so this was really valuable to us :D
