PLANETORUS2 by cottontshirtz

Gameplay_01.png

NOTE: You will have to hit Enter/Return to spawn the first time. I didn't have a chance (yet) to add a title screen...

This game is sort of a sequel to a previous LD game of mine. While this is currently missing some polish (and some serious cleanup of last minute features), I am quite proud of how this game feels!

Gameplay_02.png

The basic form of the game is to race through the gates and avoid falling to your doom. I haven't gotten motion sick due to this, but I wouldn't be surprised if it affects some people in that way.

CONTROLS:

A, D to steer.

Space to jump.

Enter/Return to spawn/respawn.

Escape to close the game.

Yes, you can wrap a rectangle into a torus, so it seemed like a natural thing to do.

Good core gameplay here, I think just adding some scoring like time or coins would make it even better. Having the red obstacles turn into holes after a delay was a really interesting approach! I found it fairly easy to stay alive when on the inside of the torus compared to the outside so maybe you could add incentives to push players to the outside. Nice job!

That was really fun!
The difficulty is a bit high, and it would have been nice if there was a more obvious goal/scoreboard. But fundamentally, the gameplay is fun, and the execution is super cool!

My apologies, I had an early version uploaded. It's still missing scores and the like, but it includes more features...

Super trippy, and really fun as well. I was intentionally hitting all of the red obstacles because dodging the holes was great. It was a super cool moment looping around the torus the first time and realizing I needed to deal with the holes from the previous time around. Great work!

Can you explain what you're seeing? The web version was a last-minute addition, so I would be surprised if there are issues...

Took some time to understand what was going on, but a nice idea, I think just a start menu with some instructions would help. The enemies were good at predicting my movement, Nice job!

Really wish this was completed, it has great potential to be something enjoyable! Still fun to play now but needs more mechanics and gameplay. Good start.

This game presents a very unique concept of racing on the surface of a gigantic Torus (hence the name of the game "PlaneTorus" (clever name by the way). The graphics are visually pleasing, the music selection really fits the game. I realize that the game wasn't finished, but I can imagine the possibilities. I look forward to your next and wish you the best of luck.

Interesting take on the theme and definitely very different from other things I've seen so far! Just saw you responded to my blog post, I'm glad you're happy with how the jam turned out because you made something really neat!

I'm very interested in where you take it next. Thanks for bringing it by the stream!

Really great work - I just wish there was more! I doubt making controls on the surface of a torus feel good is an easy task, and yet it felt so natural to loop around this giant doughnut on my bike. Great job!

Was a cool game, I like the fact that the terrain damage is long lasting :)
