Wake Up by rvenson

[raw]
made by rvenson for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Wake Up is a thriller about a confusing story by an unnamed character. You wake up in your apartment hungry and disoriented, and soon realize that you are trapped in a strange loop of dreams.

Your mission is to find out what's going on and how to get out of this endless nightmare.

Commands

  • AWSD - Character movement
  • SPACE - Interactions
  • Mouse - for some menu interactions

Developers

  • Ramon Venson
  • Jeison Cleiton Pandini

Dev notes

Loops can easily refer to endless problems. So we decided to create something more atmospheric and with a story. All assets were made using open software (thanks Godot, Blender, GIMP, LMMS, Audacity).

Disclaimer

This game may contain a history of violence and blood. Not recommended for children.

Notes

Some fixes were done after the JAM deadline. Please, consider the JAM Version on itch.io for ludum dare feedbacks.

Changelog

  • Fixed player collider (some bugs in the main table causes player be throwed to the underground)
  • Fixed end scene dialogue typo
  • Added a new tip on the last level (because it was really very difficult)

Oh man, I'm a sucker for thriller and creepy feelings. This was very nice! I really enjoy the creepy atmosphere that you guys worked on. I had a little trouble when there was a calculator or phone of some sort on the table? But nonetheless, it was great.

This game had a great creepy mood. I could not figure out the ending with the code, something to do with Orwell would be my best guess. Anyways really impressive for the Jam time frame!

A very creepy game! I enjoyed the puzzles very much and played to the end. I do think the modelling could be a little better, but other than that I really enjoy this one. Good work you guys!

Thanks everyone for the feedback. We really apreciate your time playing our game.

@ramememe, I have to admit that the alarm and smartphone did not receive a dignified art 😅.

Thanks @curly @tarvisplays @matchaflavor @etrealjunior @usenrame. I'm excited to check your games soon!

Great game! I liked the creepy puzzle style. The ambience is really good to set the mood. I never got to the end because I couldn't figure out what to do with the code thing on the table, but very good game overall! I liked the sound effects, and the art was nice. The hair on the guy's head was a bit glitchy, though.

Congratulations on the game I like the ambience and I'm still in the struggle to discover the secrets of this game, there is still a lack of animations and interactions, but it's fun, a big hug.

Loved the mood on this one. Really good design and music, although I had some trouble figuring out what to do so instead I just started climbing various pieces of furniture until I could get on top of the cupboards.

Was it the right way to play? No, but I had a lot of fun.
Great game.

I find the art style a bit inconsistent, especially with the mixture of different fonts and godot's default buttons. But the sound really makes up for it

Good job! I really liked the atmosphere of the game and also the atmosphere behind it. The graphics are simple, but cool. And the sound is very good. It looks like a great horror game. Congratulations.

Really liked this game! The graphics are great, and I really liked the sounds - especially the voice telling you to "wake up." I was also really intrigued by the story - I'm a little sad I couldn't finish it. This was partially due to me getting stuck on the code part - I couldn't figure it out! Mainly though, it kept freezing my whole computer, so I had to restart everything, naturally including the game. The first time it happened though I was enjoying the game so much I tried again, hoping I just unluckily hit a rare error. But then it happened again when I was trying to figure out the code...and so I decided to stop there. Only other issue I ran into was that the player walk animation was either being laggy or just sped up really fast. Other than those issues though, I really loved this game! Well done!

Thank you so much for the feedback, guys! @rhythmic-revival and @etrealjunior, we really have some problems with the model animations on the Godot (just newbie problems). We really appreciate your feedback here. Try the last version too which has some more tips for the last code.

@zachary-granger WE LAUGH A LOT with this picture. Sorry about that. Do you try the last version or jam version? I updated the colliders, so I expect that this doesn't occur anymore xD

@lakso I need to agree that the fonts were poorly chosen and we could have detailed UI better. I really appreciate this feedback.

@vphyre and @mrstari, thanks a lot for the compliments. It's exactly the aspects that we focus on this game.

@eoshadows I don't know about this error. We have some bugs found and player stuck on the tests, but nothing about the entire computer =( If someone else have this issue, please report it so we can investigate (maybe inform the OS and other aspects, because we don't have good tools for bug reports here).

We will play all the games here soon. So check your feedback boxes

Great story telling great spook, it really kept me captivated, and finally I figured out the code after a break! The atmosphere with the sounds and subtle effects work well, making it a good thriller game and a solid entry, nicely done!

Thank you @bentekiller. I'm glad you discover the code! I'll probably try something more challenging (and with more references) next time 😆
