Keep Jeff Alive by BenG

[raw]
made by BenG for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Jeff is an adventurous, but somewhat foolhardy, baby. Guide Jeff to his Mum and avoid the spikes.

This is the first Unity game we've made! Lots of problems along the way, but my son (age 11) and I had a blast.

We used Blender, Unity and Bolt.

Ah, too bad. I'm not a Mac user, so either a Windows or a WebGL build would reach more people, I guess.

Simply 5 stars, matches the game, and great work, your son will be a big one ;) theres a small bug, you can jump on walls and simple stay in the air =) fix this and the game works perfect for me. Hope to see you 2 in the next jam =)

Man I wanted to keep Jeff alive, but I kept dying myself 😅 eventually got to level 3 or 4 I think, fun game! Cool that you made a game together, keep up the good work and see you next jam 😁

Congratulations on your first game.
I like the idea of the baby moving like its mother.
Just a quick note, you can stay in the air by keeping the movements horizontal.
Very good idea to do that with your son.
Good luck to both of you.

I first want to say congratulations on completing the game. It was very challenging and it fits the theme well. I do think that having the spikes come in right through the right wall made it feel a bit too punishing and made me afraid of even getting close to the right wall because I thought I was going to get hit. I think being able to see the spikes in advance would help improve that greatly. Also as side note with the art you want to avoid using too many heavily saturated colors as it makes the game look very bright and can hurt the eyes. Beside those few things I thought you did a great job and I hope you two keep making games and keep improving!

Congrats on your first jam game! The first two levels can be kinda cheesed by jumping to the wall and getting stuck there but the next few levels became more interesting, especially since you gotta multitask throughout.

Awesome that you made this with your son! It's actually a lot of fun trying to get Jeff down safely. The art is a little hard on my eyes, but that could just be my age. Awesome work nailing the theme too! And thanks for the webGL player ;)

Congratulations of finishing your first jam successfully!

Getting Jeff to safety was quite a challenge!

I could just make mummy jump and stick to the side of the wall. She would stay like that indefinitely, as long as you are holding the cursor. Also, the colors are rather unpleasant to look at after a time, as they are all lamp-bright, on the characters and on the background. Muting the background colors would fix that easily :), the characters could even stay saturated with that change.

The graphics are great. The game play was a bit confusing for me at first, since the controls move to characters at once. The spikes come on too fast and unexpectedly for a first level for me. Consider dropping it down a few notches at the start... or build in some kind of warning that spike is coming... or, at least, position the mother in the middle at the beginning so she does not get killed right away with no visual clue as to why :-) Overall, great work for a first Unity game. Consider adding screenshots to your project page here, as that will encourage others to play.

I like the bright colors. The sounds hurt a little bit.
