Dragon Drop by Roelosaurus

[raw]
made by Roelosaurus for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

The kingdom's dragons are wounded!

Use potions to keep them alive but be careful not to give them any ingredients that weaken them.

A puzzle game of gem-swapping, potion-switching and dragon-healing fun!

How to play:

Drag potions onto the tables on the right to view their contents.

Drag and drop gems between the potions.

Drag potion on the dragons to heal them - provided they're not weak to any of the contained gems!

Unfortunately you might experience a bug within later levels. We spent some time trying to find and squish it but, fittingly, it has been kept alive. Pressing 1 will skip the current level if needed.

Really fun concept! Maybe it wouldve been easier if you show the gems they need, not the gems they die from.

I never knew that potions are made out of gems. Overall a solid game I liked it! ^^

I like the central pun, and the puzzle idea is cool. I'm missing some kind of additional mechanic stemming from the core gameplay loop — I wish success would buy me something in terms of new verbs.

Is there sound?

This is a very clever puzzle. I really like it and kept me entertained for many minutes. Pixel art is solid and very cute. I love the alchemist atmosphere, would be nice to rate it on mood category too. Congratulations, did a great job. Maybe this version could be a base to a bigger game.

This game fit the theme well and had really nice graphics and gameplay. The balance of difficulty was fairly good as well. Saving might have been a helpful addition, especially with the bug mentioned above(i had to restart as unfortunately the bug crashed the game). Overall, I really enjoyed this game.

This game took me a few minutes to figure out how it works xD

The concept and mechanics are great! If time allowed, having a bit of tutorialization would've helped me get right into the puzzles.

I really liked the simple artstyle. Fun little puzzle-game. At one point I could not exchange the gems anymore.

Ooh, it took me a long time to understand that the speech bubbles show what the dragons don't like. I first thought the skull meant the strength of the potion, or something like that. Maybe it would be clearer if there was a red strikethrough on the gems instead?

https://i.imgur.com/TQFjrpL.png this also makes it look like they require a blue one, and are allergic to purple ones.

It did freeze completely on the first level with three dragons.

Other than that it's a neat puzzle game! Had me thinking and mixing and matching.

really fun game love the concept and art. I do have some suggestions like adding music/sound effects and a end since it loops around.

Good job! The gameplay looked simple at first, but it can become quite complicated at some point. Love the graphics too :)

Pretty interesting concept, however the puzzles weren't insanely thought provoking (my game did crash though so I only got to like the 7th level). The art style is really nice though, and I agree with other people about music and that a tutorial would help immensely, even reading the controls here it took my a while to figure everything out initially. Yet, the game was still fun and was a worthwhile experience, so good job!

@rapwnzel
Thanks! The puzzle idea of "They can't have these gems" seemed to have more to it than "They must have these gems".
So the idea is that the dragons need any healing potion, just not ones that they are weak too.

Very cool. Great art especially. Took me a long time to figure out that you drag the specific potion art onto the dragons to apply them. But, once I got that down, it went smoothly. I can see how this would escalate in difficulty well.

I. LOVE. THIS. GAME.

Everything about it is awesome. The satisfying puzzle concept, the cute art, the puzzles, that introduced me in the perfect pace and then got just the right level of challenging, the story of a dragon hospital for itty bitty dragons. If you can keep this up for 100 levels I will buy it for my phone :smile:

See me (metaphorically) scratching my head:

@rialgar

Thank you so much - this is excellent feedback! It's great seeing you learn what we had intended for each level. And yes, We did have quite a few ideas for puzzles that unfortunately didn't make it in - you were right about running out of time! Thanks again :)

Very cute game. Admittedly, I was a bit confused at first, but I quickly got the hang of it. Neat little puzzle game.
