22/04/2020: we decided to create a new project to work on some update for the game, the links are still pointing to the game we submitted at the end of the jam, if you are curious to know more, you can check here: https://jean-marc-studio-jms.itch.io/fire-age-post-ludum-dare. The most change we did was adding a full tutorial because we felt some player didn't understand everything..

How to play:

Move with arrow keys or wasd You can grab, drop and switch item with the key E. While holding the axe, chop tree with Q key. While holding the torch, scare animal with Q or refill it with Q when close from fire. If close from fire and nothing in hand, Q key to create a new torch. Protect you from the wind by holding the wood plank near the fire and in the good direction.

I really like the "fog of war" layer at night!

I too like the fog of war layer, but it would be nice to see what the character is currently holding, something like an inventory UI

I really like this game! the controls are a little clunky at times, mainly when multiple items are close together but the game is still really fun!

The HTML5 version of the game appears to be broken, as it just loads a black screen when I try to play.

The main music track is pretty nice, and the fog of war mechanic is very clever. I love this idea and I could see this being extended into a full world with more fleshed out survival mechanics. The foxes are definitely a little glitchy but this is a really cool proof of concept and I hope you continue development.

Cool game. The fog of war is cool, and I'm impressed at the amount of things you managed to cram in there!

The mood is really nice and it plays really smooth. I think it's a little unintuitive not being able to attack the wolves with the axe. Other than that, the music is really relaxing and the survival feel it has is really good. Keep it up!

The fog of war looks cool. But in fact, it took me a while to know how to fight against animals.

lol @ running on air.

I like how this looks... the rocks sticking out of the side of the earth are a really nice touch. The fog of war is so great!

Managed to last a few days but it gets touch as the number of animals ramps up. The axe is quite hard to distinguish from sticks so that had me a bit confused at points. Maybe I wanted to zoom in?

Nice jam.

Good fun! A little confusing at the start, figuring out what to do before night hits, but really engaging once you get the hang of it! Great job!

@petrifiedapple and @ashashza , the problem of testing a game when we created it, we only try in the usual case and forget that players can do unsual things ^^

We saw that some actions were not clear, so we added gif to show more these points:
- to scare animal, you should use a torch in front of them to scare them ("Q" when having a torch), axe won't do anything
- you can create a new torch by pressing Q near the fire and not have anything in your hand

I love the fog idea, that was a nice touch to the game. It did feel like the game was maybe a bit too zoomed out, I don't know. It feels like it could've been zoomed in just a *tad* more, but other than that an overall nice game!

@kiln and @ashashaza Thank you for your retour. We will try something with the camera :)
I think the "bug" where you can fly is funny ! (but need to be correct) We forgot this simple detail ^^

I just had to play your game as you had the same concept as us! I love the execution on yours a tad bit more than on ours to be honest hahahah. I really like the wolf and fog of war mechanic! Sound and art fits nicely together and the general flow of the gameplay seems balanced well. I'd love to see some score at the end with an online db to see how i did comparing to others. I did not get the concept of creating new torches at first tho. Maybe i didn't read properly tho hahaha. Very nice entry! Enjoyed every second of playing it!

@auburgo Thanks for the feedback dude. I'm glad that you enjoyed our game. And yeah the torch creation is one of the things that players didn't understand at first. We plan on adding some tutorial thingy in order to make some things, like this, clearer for the player.

Thank you all for playing and leaving comments down here, we really appreciate it!

Nice game! Scaring animals was the most challenging thing for me, as I always leave my torch too far D:
The wind thing is a really nice idea!
Also I may play Animal Crossing too much, I was afraid that the axe would break after chopping too much trees...

The graphics, audio, and mood were really great. Would be exciting to see where this goes. Like being able to build a better shelter or weapons. Are you going to keep working on it?

@kuiefs Thanks for the feedback, we already worked a bit more on it by adding an ingame tutorial and fixed some bugs. We coudn't really see a future for this game at it is right now ( kind of arcade game where we should just protect the fire) but maybe your suggestion can be a way, we could make the world infinite so more possibilities and add a craft system, we will think about it, keeping the same graphics, audio and mood but changing gameplay for something more interesting

I liked the isometric view, the art and models was really nice, I almost missed the 4 pages of tutorials xD.

I like the idea and different features it has, awesome job to finish it within 3 days! :muscle:
