How to kill your grandparents by Arcus

[raw]
made by Arcus for Ludum Dare 47 (COMPO)

A shooter, where you have to fight a massive boss - your grandfather. After inventing the time machine (I can only assume by googling it) you take your conviniently enhanced body to face off against him. Shooting.png The three different guns would have had different features, but oops ran out of time.

If this isn't my boy @arcus ! The first commenter under my first game from the last ludum dare! How 'ya doing friend?

Staying true to your style. I think I could instantly spot a game that you made. Music is lovely graphics, are presentable. Your balancing has passed my auto clicker stress test.

I found it a little confusing in the beginning. I didn't understand that I am in a "menu" and that I need to step on the time machine text. I thought this was some sort of tutorial screen and the time machine was an UI element.

@voidsay Nice seeing you around :v:
I was planing on fixing the startup menu to be more clicker based, but something broke along the way, and I went to fix that, and then more things broke, so eventualy I decided that a menu was less important than getting the entire game to be functional. Might make a post-jam version in the next few weeks with the bits that I wanted to add in, but never got round to.

very interesting idea, I just have 3 suggestions:
* have gold be a reward for fighting, like it drop over time or by damage or both. so you have a reason to fight even when you can't win.
* make the collision more forgiving, because sometimes it looks like you took damage even though you dodged the bullet.
* and more juice! Like particles, sfx, frozen frames etc.

Also the music is pretty good!

Good job making this game! Especially for the music.
The game itself isn't that hard. it could be nice to add some attack patterns to the Grand father.
Nonetheless, I had fun playing this game!

Nice game! The topic of dying and improve your skills is awesome and engaging! Maybe you can improve the gamefeel of the game, like adding sounds and effects when the main character shoots or receives damage. Adding a tiny animation in the shop section could be great... at the beginning, I was thinking that was an image xD. Despite that, it's a great game. Congrats!

I love that you're tryna kill your giant evil grandfather. The music is also really good! More sound effects and juice would have really sealed it but it's definitely a cool one!

I think I may have developed carpal tunnel syndrome from the clicking :P Would be nice to have autofire! I liked the progression though, and the music was good. For a compo game its well put together! It seems like there is no end to this? Let me know if i'm mistaken, I got to the point where I could quickly eliminate myself from existence and it was very rewarding after the struggle at the beginning! I think a bigger map and maybe some cover, or different grampa-attacks would be great to add some variety. Nice compo entry! :D

What a great game! The music is really nice, i think that the 'store' is a nice touch too, and the gamepay is awesome!! One of the greatest games that i played in this jam, and i could play it for a loooong time haha. Well done!

Why does grandpa have so much health? It took me forever to kill him with a measly pistol and then my hand hurt so I didn't want to keep playing.

Other than the health being too high the mechanic was interesting that you are supposed to die. The music was great and the art was nice too.

I like how you can shrink & eventually destroy the enemy bullets by shooting em. Maybe making it so your bullet goes toward the enemy's if it's very close would be nice (so those tiny enemy bullets are a bit easier to hit) - could do the same with the coins and have them gravitate toward you if you're close to them. Also maybe new coins should spawn over time - the "coin boost" upgrade could make them respawn more often. The upgrade menu being an area where you can walk around is pretty cool :)

The game has some great ideas! I like the concept of fighting a powerful boss and coming back every loop being more powerful. However, I agree with another comment, that just collecting coins might not be the most interesting solution, as there's no reason to fight and the player might just die, after they collected all the coins.
