The Siege of Yggdrasil by rohezal

The siege of Yggdrasil

is a mix between Skyrim and Minecraft. Build a Wall around Yggdrasil to keep it alive and prevent the world from ending. Fight against wolfes and crawlers in a "Skyrim light style" combat system. Harvest wood and stone for the wall. Destroy the crystal of Hel to end the siege of Yggdrasil.

Please use 16:9 resolutions (1920x1080, 1280x720 etc), the menus could be cropped at different ratios. To destroy the crystal you have to hit it several times while staying alive, not only once :).

tutorialgamemechanics.png

"Hel, the goddes of the underworld is attacking Yggdrasil, the tree in the center of the world. All trees in its valley, except a few far away stone pines, were already destroyed by Hels crawlers. She sent her wolfs to guard these insects and to destroy the world. You have to defend Yggdrasil. Gather wood and build a wall around it. Fight her wolfs and slay her crawlers. After this you can try to stop Hel by destroying her crimson crystal."

Ulf the Viking will do his best to prevent Ragnarök.

Cool game!
Nice with the voice acting
It was really hard, (at first I thought the stone in the middle was the tree since it was so big, but I figured it out ) The movement controls were smooth and the combat was slow which required you to back and time your hits and not just spamclick, you even had to think about not standing to far from the trees you gathered, as it costed you to much time if you were to miss them.
Well done!

@logflames thank you so much for your nice comment :). I thought about making Yggdrasil bigger, but was a bit afraid it would increase the hitbox for the crawlers and make the game too hard.

PS: If you beat it, you can try it on hard core mode (100 instead of 150 hitpoints and the orbs heal you only for 10 instead of 20 hitpoints).

Impressive what you can do with 3D graphics in 72 hours today !

You manage to do something obviously too ambitious actually fun to play. I play for half an hour but did not manage to destroy the Hel crystal. Wolves stop to spawn when I surround it but it teleports everytime I want to hit it, and there is not enough wood on the map to isolate every spawn point I think...

This was my master plan, build a wood tunnel between Yggdrasil and Hel crystal. Was I supposed to do this ? IDK, but it was fun :) Well done !

@sylvainpv I am f***** impressed that you just walled off the wolfs. I did not even think about it. The crystal has 10 hitpoints, if you hit 10 times will it explode. A lifebar for the crystal would be good for them post jam version.

I am happy you liked the game .:).

@thibaud-ligneul to be honest, i thought the game was to easy. if you win you can play on hardcore mode. you are faster than the wolfes and you can heal yourself. you have to take advance of this. and you have some time before the wolves start. building a few wall tiles and restrict their movement helps a lot.

Really impressive (nice to see an Unreal Engine game :D) however I found th game really difficult : there are too many monsters at the begining and we can't even take the time to understand what's happening. I had to do 4 or 5 games to understand fully how the game works. But even then it's really hard to handle everything at once. But overall it's really good and promising ! Mixing building defense and attacking monsters is a really nice idea :D Also, if you used free to use graphics, you should still mention the authors in the game description (I'm not sure you did :/).

@red-ash thank you for the feedback. I am happy you liked the genre mix.The assets were paid or used from free the UE asset store give away. There is a list of the itch.io page where all used assets are listed. Maybe I should include it here too, the sounds were all free from freesounds and jamendo :).

It look's better, than it is. No time between mob attacks. I think you should make it more wavy, good job!

@arcus Well it was a bit inspired by it. But it is not like Thor will descend from Asgard, sadly ;).

@daniil-tcyvakin I noticed a lot of people are overwhelmed a bit when they start the game and did not read the instruction. This game features a lot of things. You have to hit the dead trees with your axe to collect wood, while you fight the wolfs. You have to kill the crawlers from time too time and heal up near Yggdrasil. And you have to buid the wall while doing it.

The idea of waves sounds good. Maybe it would make the game a bit more easy. But maybe too easy 5 to 10 seconds are enough to build most if not all of the wall. Not sure if it would be challenging enough.

@rohezal I've read instruction, tried to destroy trees, get wood, and everything gonna be ok, but if I start to kill mobs then I had no time to build and to destroy trees, mobs are infinietly coming without any pause. Game has a potential, and i believe that you can do it, Good luck!

Haha I loved it! I'm writing similar type of project for couple of weeks, and I was thinking how you were able to make your game playable in such short period of time. Killing through doors, and running were a game changer to make a win for me, Well done!

@wdebowicz UE4 is a great engine where you can get fast results. I used some ready2use blueprints like the build system with some modifications I made. Thank you for your kind feedback :).
