ABOUT

Little Lucy has lost her teddy bear and is stuck in a recurring loop trying to find him! Help Lucy with the help of her past selves and find the teddy bear, so she can sleep peacefully.

CONTROLS

  • WSAD / ARROWS - Controls Lucy's movement
  • Space - Jump
  • E - Interact (e.g use near a lever to switch)
  • R - Lucy falls asleep to start another day

You can also use a controller though it is not tested so any button can be anything.

NOTES

We wanted to add more to the level with additional features and add audio as well, but we didn't have time to work on this on the last day of the JAM, since our work has caught up with us. So it is more of a proof of concept of some mechanics, but it was a great fun to develop and test in a team!

TOOLS

  • Unity 2020
  • Visual studio 2019
  • Photoshop

I love the mechanic, it's really cool, it could make for a great metroidvania kind of game :D

Cute little game. a little thing tho, you can wall jump, so I could complete the entire game without restarting.

@marc-antoine-girard We had to fix bounding boxes at the of the jam, so this was an oversight on our part, it wasn't possible in our prototyping phase. Well spotted and thanks for feedback :]

It perfecty fits on the theme. With a little work it will be great.

This is a great start, and shows a good amount of technical prowess. I would have liked to see more level design, and the graphics felt a little busy, but it is a fun interpretation of the theme, and you executed well. Also, the jump feels a little... floaty.

I couldn't tell if the 'past selves' were supposed to move, or what exactly the puzzle was. I ended up just wall-jumping into bed on accident.

@hank-ather They should move exactly as you did before you went to sleep, so they will activate levers and plates for you to places you would otherwise have no access too (except for the wall jump, which is a bug :] ) Thanks for playing anyway.

It does feel chaotic, but overall the idea seems nice!

Wall jump for the win! I love the "past life interacts with the world" mechanic. There is a lot of potential there!

The mechanic is fun, it can definitely work in a full game.
I missed some sound or music.

The linux link appears to be broken.

Cool mechanic where your past self can help your current self. However, it was possible to wall jump and just win immediately. Nice lighting effects.

Really great core mechanic, lots of pieces in there to make rad puzzles (pressure plates, timed levers, moving platforms, you name it). I like that dynamic lamp at the beginning. Platforming could be tweaked to feel better I think, and it wouldn't take much. Maybe just moving faster, a bit higher gravity, and a bit slower moving platforms would help it feel "tighter" with similar or identical level design. Great work!

Windows link did not work for me:

However, Online WebGL one worked so I got to enjoy this game. I gotta say I have spent more time playing your game than any other at this Ludum Dare. It has a very unique mechanic, at least I've never encountered such an approach in a game before. The premise and the level is fairly simple, but the genius of the game loop you created makes it super interesting. I could not put the game down until I beat it, and boy, it took a while.))
Fantastic game. Slap some music + SFX-s onto it, add more levels and it would deserve a place on steam.
Also, this is easily the best realization of the theme I have seen at this Ludum Dare, — gameplay is built directly around a time loop mechanic and it is a lot of fun too. Great game!

By the way, it would have been cool if the minimum number of Lucies required was 4, with the last one coming back all the way around the level and climbing up to the final objective. I tried to beat the game with as few clones as possible, but even with my copies holding elevator buttons and constantly opening doors for me I could not climb back to the bear after the final task, so had to utilize an extra copy. It is a very smart and overall outstanding game. Congratulations and thank you for making it! :)

P.S. Read about wall jumping exploit in the comments now, it is funny. It breaks the game in many ways cause you can get out of bounds with it quite easily. But I am actually not sure if you can climb on the second elevator without it. I didn't realize wall jumps were unlimited but I did bounce off the second elevator platform's edge to get on top of it, — I just assumed that was the only spot where you could do that. xD
Oh, and if you replace green sleeping grass with like a poppy field that mechanic would become much more intuitive. ;)

@CandleLight Thank you for playing and your feedback! Yeah, we really liked the mechanic from the get go, just didn't really manage our time properly. We only had 2 days for it due to work and we didn't really realize the game as we wanted too. We might come back to it later to at least polish the level or add some more and actually polish the movement and jump.
Thanks for the alert on links, no idea why they stopped working, but I refreshed them with new ones :]

I also used the wall jump for the second platform xD I missed some music / SFX but cool gameplay! Congratulations!.
