Raising Cerberus by LocksmithArmy

[raw]
made by LocksmithArmy for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Young Cerberus is just 30 days away from being old enough to guard the gates of hell. Keep him alive and entertained long enough, and Hades best friend will serve you well for years to come. RiverStyx.gif In this game, you have 30 minutes (one minute is one day) to feed cerberus and keep him entertained. You must also keep the heros out of Hades by defendign the gates. HadesGate.gif You can hire nimphs to help guard the gates, and send Charon out to get pet supplies.

Can you keep track of it all?

GUIDE: To get junk, fish it out of the river (slght chance of getting a gem) Spend gems to buy Nymphs to guard the gate If you have no gems and noone is watching the gate, you have to guard it yourself. Shooting heros has a chance to drop gems. Spend junk giving (3 at a time, one for each head) to Cerberus to play with Also, spend junk by sending ALL your junk with Charon to get food. Charon returns in 1 day (1 minute) and feed Cerberus based on how much junk you sent him to sell. The food meter is the red meter The entertainment meter is the blue if either run out, you lose. Also if too many heros get past the gate, you lose. Heros get in if noone is guarding the gate, or if you miss shooting one while you are guarding.

I like the adventure game style, and the art has loads of character. My main complaint is that it's confusing trying to figure out what to do, and stressful watching the bars drop while I'm trying to figure it out. A good way to structure games like this is to introduce mechanics one at a time and wait for the player to succeed in it before giving them another, but I understand implementing a structure that complex is difficult in a jam. But again, your art and concept are unique and very charming.

It's a little confusing to figure out what to do. I was kind of lost on playing with him. The fishing was a little awkward, I found a great spot just to the bottom right of the map icon to spam to pull stuff almost every time. The concept was neat but it felt like you were trying to include too much at once and didn't have time for polish. I like the concept though.

I found it hard to figure out what to do. Things like when Charon would return and I payed the nymph twice in a row. Other than that I liked it, the artwork was really cool. Cerberus looked liked a good boy(err boys?)

I added a quick guide to the page so users can see what all the elements are. I understand its confusing being dumped in a game with no clue how to play ;) (hard to get all the polish in just 2 days though)

I enjoyed playing this, although it was a bit too tricky and the time was up too quickly, in my opinion.
Liked the variety of activities. The art style is nice and felt original.

Beautiful game! I loved the art. I was confused about how to feed the dog and give him a toy.

I did enjoy playing the game honestly, the drawings and game design are needing a little more "love" to say so... I do love the concept itself, the idea of the game is very original and cool. I do would have like a different style of art, example Cerberus looks too cute for my taste

I like the unique twist on keeping your pet alive! An ambitious scope for a game made in so little time, there was quite a lot of different stuff. I feel focusing on a smaller version of the game and polishing more would help a great deal. Good work though! :D

Clearly I'm not able to take care of Cerberus! Lots of imagination putted in here, congratulations! There's a lot of ideas going on at the same time. A total challenge that's really hard!

I enjoyed this. :) flesh it out a little and tighten up the fishing mechanic. Plus the time seems a little constrained. But great otherwise.

The cerberus doggo is cute i like it. The fishing part is very challenging. Good concept on the theme to keep the cerberus alive.

awww... so sad when I make something that cute die. I agree with what others have said in that this fishing is odd, I think the fishing would make more sense from a side perspective rather than top down, and if the things you hit with your lines didn't get destroyed?

Big scope for a jam, good job.

Very nice game. I liked the painted art style and the mini-games, fishing and defend hades. Using the map to move between different areas was a great idea.

I couldn't figure out what to do. I was fishing the souls on the styx but couldn't do anything with them after that(charon said I had nothing to sell).

I like the concept of having to move between overlapping resource management mini-games. I like the challenge of having to plan ahead (for example, send Charon out in advance) rather than simply react to whatever.

My only complaint is that the fishing minigame takes getting used to (since you have to lead), so it took a while before I could really do anything useful.
