Void Rabbit by JoshuaRabbit

[raw]
made by JoshuaRabbit for Ludum Dare 45 (COMPO)

My first Ludum Dare Project! Maybe there is some mistake about uploading. A monster born in the white liquid and it eat a lot of rabbits, then it became a rabbit. But it still didn't have its own will until he ate first person. He kept killing and eating, absorbing the knowledge and power. He lives in the world but don't what to do, except eating. He still seems to be staying in the void. PC Controls:

WASD or Arrow Keys - Movement Z - To hear the danger E - Fight hand-to-hand F - Shoot Space - Next line of text (sometime) 20191007033940.png20191007033948.png20191007033645.png

I really liked the way you implemented the theme here. I found the ending to be funny, as it's usually 'magicians' to be summoning bunnies from their hat. I only had a problem with the level where there are enemies shooting at you, I felt like I was getting hit when they weren't even shooting me. Maybe some feedback for when I get hit would be appreciated, like screenshake/particle effects/sound effects. Overall, nice little game you got here

Got stuck on candles. Shot all candles, no result.

Unique concept, "hearing the danger" feature is really cool and i felt that i made some progress while playing the game. This is solid entry for the first time jam!

Oh forgot to mention, animations were so cute! :D

Well done! Looks like you put a lot of effort into making this game. two things I thought I should mention that maybe you could learn from:

If you walk diagonally into a diagonal collider, you can just go through it:
![wallclip.png](///raw/b0e/7/z/26fd0.png)

And although the colliders were set up correctly, the layering between the player and some sprites is incorrect, for example, this roof should be rendered above the player.

Sorry for this problem, in fact there is 5 candles originally and when you shoot the candle that doesn't shine, you will find there is a little step on the right-top. There should be more effect when the step shows up. Sorry for this problem. @baturinsky

Probably I have missed the step.I have noticed some pixels at the tope left corner, but did not thought it can be the exit.

Thank you for playing the game! I also want to show the 'hearing the danger' feature useful although the rabbit can fight, looking like that the function is still there. So I set the region of the thunder magic invisible until pressing Z. Thank you for your encourage. @iozsaygi

Thank you for your advice! You played the game so carefully that finding this two bugs! I will be careful when setting the collider and the sprite order next time! @n0ught234

Great theme fit, interesting mechanics and development. The hear the danger is very interesting but really felt like a chore to me in the end, I had to spam Z all the time. Collision with whirlpools felt unfair as well as it was hard to know where rabbit was.

Otherwise I enjoyed the graphics style, the development and the fact that the story goes from the void to an end! Congrats

@joshuarabbit Also, in Unity, go to File > Build Settings > Player Settings > Resolution and Presentation > Supported Aspect Ratios and you can deselect all aspect ratios other than the one intended because it looks like you didn't intend for people to play in a wide view.

Thank you for telling me this! I have in trouble with build-setting and the resolution problem for a long. @n0ught234

Sorry for causing problems and thank you for your feedback! It notices me that the 'hearing' can better if it was designed as a BUFF. And the collider also should be modified more reasonable. @blint6

Had a little trouble with it but it's a good concept and fit with the theme! Interesting game! I hope you expand it after the jam!

Nice game! I really liked your idea of allowing the player to actively "hear" things. Added a nice new layer on top of the gameplay.
Also, really interesting story, with the bunny-magician storyline, especially with a great ending, which was not only funny but also very thoughtful and philosophical.

I also really liked how you guided the player through the different screens. At no point in the game did I feel like I didn't know where to go, you always provided directions. Good job!

Solid entry, I liked it. :)

Where to even begin haha. What a game. I like how the rabbit evolves and with it comes all these new mechanics. Perhaps the game is a bit short, and for the boss fight I would've liked some feedback on whether I'm hitting him or not. The art was pretty good, too bad there is not sound. In any case a job well done!

I liked the blob animations at the start of the game.
Notes:
- Hidden hands in the water form a very tight passage, and the player can be reset after a delay even if they moved away from the danger spot.
- Animation for fighting is too long - it clearly shows two hits, but only the first one is registered. So either this animation could be cut in half, or two hits should be properly processed.
- While "hearing" the spells from the magician is a nice touch, it does not provide any advantage since the mage always attacks the current position of the player. Simply moving towards the mage allows to avoid all of the attacks.
