https://youtu.be/Ga2IuizmGRs

After the last invasion of monsters, the king decided it was up to you to defeat the waves of incoming monsters to keep the town alive.

The game lacks of gameplay and menus, also there is no sound unless you play the fixed post-compo version. So far you can walk and fight with the default scorpion. If you get hit 4 times you are dead, but if you manage to hit the scorpion a dozen times, you will defeat him.

Controls:

  • WASD/left joystick: Move
  • Left mouse/A: Attack
  • Space/B: Jump
  • Escape/Start: Quit

nice i haven't seen a souls-like game in game jams before. but this game sometimes feel unfair because the enemy gives no indication that he will attack

Cannot run the MacOS build :/

It seems you used Godot.
I use it too. When I export for MacOS I get a .dmg

Love the Runscape-are graphics! It misses some key features to be a complete game, but it is still a cool concept!

It looks very nice, I don't think I can win tho? I have a hard time getting a sense of what the attack is the enemy does. but I really love the movement. the camera lock feels very nice too. Really nice compact demo :D

@the-missing-bracket @landerack The enemy doesn’t telegraph his attacks, that’s a feature I would have implemented with more time.

@cowa I’m looking to rebuild it with different settings.

@landerack the game is mainly missing visual and audio feedback. I hope you appreciated the rest of the… demo?

I liked this and I can see what you tried to achieve if you had more time, specially regarding the enemy feedback. By the way, good to see another 3D Godot game on this LD Jam (normally in jams Godot is mostly used for 2D)! I also made a 3D game with Godot.

I love the art style! Also I love any game that features a Giant Enemy Crab.

I like the art style too. Did you animate yourself the polygons vertice by vertice ? Looks like it is the case.

@notexplosive it was supposed to be a scorpion. I take that as a… compliment?

@chuchuw I animated every node within Godot via the animation node. Their positioning is just discrete instead of continuous so it makes that effect of chained static poses. I animated this at 5fps.

@crazyrems Upon closer inspection it definitely looks like a scorpion. I think the color led me to think it was a crab lol

in itself a good idea, but i don't know when i hit the opponent or when the opponent hits me. it's missing like the hit feedback. you don't have a lifebar either. and then i'm missing a block or dodge function. maybe you can add that in the post jam version. all together a nice little game.

This is overall an okay little jam game, but I would liked a bit more gameplay contend and/or some music or sound effects.

I really like your visual and animation style with low frame rate. And it's sad you weren't able to finish it, it would probably be very interesting. Hope you'll update the game!

Why does this game eat so much memory besides being low poly and very little textures? I'm using the linux version, and it eats like 700mb. It seems to load resources when they are first used, making the game stutter for the first few seconds of gameplay. I don't know if Godot itself is to blame here.

It's hard to tell when the scorpion is attacking, and it can be killed very easily by holding W and spamming attack. There isn't really much gameplay here to talk about.

On a technical level, this game is broken; though the art style is headed somewhere. The colours work very well, and the models look nice. I find the animations are a little weird, where some parts are choppy and some are smooth, or at some angles it's hard to tell that the character is even walking. The blood particles kind of conflicts with the style.

@capital-asterisk sorry for the inconvenience, the game runs pretty low (~90mb) on Win and Mac, the only two systems I can test on so far. I’m not able to test or profile the game under Linux.

Overall this game needs some more time to work on that’s for sure. But at least it’s online in time. Thank you for playing my ~~game~~ demo.
