Supernova

Keep the Starship Ludum alive, charge your FTL jump drive, and escape from the impending supernova!

Objective

In order to escape before the local star goes supernova, you will need to charge your FTL drive, and quickly! Manage and allocate your remaining functional ship parts to keep the Starship Ludum up and running long enough to escape! Keep in mind, there are many operations on the ship that will need to be kept running, and your sensors indicate several anomalies are threatening your ship's systems!

Use your status tool (F) to track the current state of your ship: Screen Shot 2020-04-20 at 10.16.45 PM.png

Don't forget to keep your quantum power generators up and running: Screen Shot 2020-04-20 at 5.28.28 PM.png

And maintain adequate life support: Screen Shot 2020-04-20 at 5.28.16 PM.png

Components

To keep the Starship Ludum alive and running, you will need to efficiently allocate your remaining stockpile of the following components: - Batteries - Motors - Coolant - Compressors - Computers

Failure

If you fail to maintain life support, your starship may escape, but you won't.

If you fail to charge your jump drive in time, the consequences will be disastrous: Screen Shot 2020-04-20 at 5.20.53 PM.png

This is absolutely hectic! Everything is breaking down around me and I have to run and fix this junkbucket before the supernova toasts me! The intro was a nice touch too.

My space faring expertise kept us alive, with 42 seconds remaining! It wasn't performing well on the web, but the download worked better, still pretty low frames but much more playable. The intro made me want to play some kerbal space program, and the game itself is really pretty. I will say all of the numbers were confusing me at first but once I realized I just needed to keep replacing the empty/low parts of the FTL drive it was pretty straight forward. I can see a lot of potential here post-mortem, like making the generator refill empty batteries
and other creative ways of attaining filled parts instead of littering the ship with them, and making life support a necessary side task otherwise you die in your ship. Very well done y'all! You have at least one player should you keep developing this further.

Edit: I see the description says you do die if you don't maintain the life support, maybe I just got lucky with randomized initial resources or something? But I never refilled it once or paid any mind, even took one of the motors I think to add to the FTL drive. Or maybe I just escaped that quickly ;)

Very cool game, i suck at it sadly, maybe a tutorial of some sorts would help but i could figure out what i needed to do. I loved the animations and effects. Great Job!

The audio sounds a bit odd, the graphics is amazing, the game play is a bit confusing since there are lots of information to follow. Overall, nice game

Very cool game and stresful at the end. I gotta say, the intro scene was very cool, it was almost like I was watching a movie!

Very neat game! I kind of wish that damaged components had some use, but I understand why they don't.

Loved the intro!

cool game, I found it quite tough, maybe just my frame rate though, graphics were very well made

Amazing intro cutscene! Also, good implementation of the "Keeping it alive" theme. Very nice!

Solid experience, the learning curve might be a bit steep but for the scope of the game it's pretty impressive.

Nice one! I'm always amazed how someone can get that much stuff done in such a short timeframe

Thank you all for the kind words, we read and appreciate every comment!!!

@nuclear Haha thanks, glad we could instill the panic we were going for!

@croze Thank you for the detailed writeup  Starting conditions are semi-randomized (within rather tight bounds), as are anomalies, so it's possible you got really favorable starting conditions  Life support is rather forgiving, you don't need to keep all machines running at optimal efficiency to stay alive. But rest assured, it is possible to lose from not maintaining your life support!

@leniwabula Nice idea! We had hoped to get some sort of "matter exchanger" for the ship where you could trade in several components (possibly broken) to get one component of your choosing, but unfortunately we had to cut it due to time constraints.

Great work! This was almost perfect! I really liked the cut scene and the idea was great, the only issue I had was interacting with objects. I found it a little frustrating place objects in the machine (unless im missing something). Other than that though it was lots of fun to play and really really impressive for the amount of time you had to do it in.

Kinda hard to understand what was going on, a little bit of information overload.
The intro cutscene was really cute. The graphics were actually really nice, I like that you put particles near vents and stuff, really added to the experience. Also being able to see space and the expanding sun was cool!
Great entry!

I When I first started the game, I spent a little time exploring the spaceship to find out where everything was and since there didn't seem to be a timer or anything, I didn't feel pressured, so that was nice. Things started beeping at me and I figured I needed to replace stuff, but I eventually I found it a little tedious to keep walking back and forth through the ship considering the long hallways.

I really like the atmosphere, the art design and noises used. I felt like I was inside a spaceship and being the only person on board, made it feel lonely like space. Good job!
