I think you may have a bug in your input code. I'm unable to jump with Spacebar or the A key.

Edit: I was able to play using an xbox360 controller

Jinx's design is so adorable (especially her run!) and I think the BGM is great! It's such a club-feeling bop.

Nice work! I wasn't able to reach the wand but I did manage to fly a few clouds into the sky. It wasn't obvious to me at first that you were able to stand on clouds, but I got the hang of it after a bit.

One thing that would have helped me is having a meter that indicates how much flight time I have remaining, so I don't go for a jump I can't make. It would also help reinforce how many orbs I've collected.

I think the concept of "collecting things that makes you able to travel farther" is a good spin on this kind of jumping game!

@sayumeki thanks, I didn't get to doing UI in time. I started the vector art for a mana bar. Though it wouldn't have taken long I spent way too much time on the music lol

I also have an orbs collected variable I wanted to display in the win screen and a witch time slowdown

It's quite challenging! I wish there was a little bit more forgiveness around getting hit by the crows, but at the same time, I can see that being part of what makes the game what it is. Nice job! Did you write the music?

@bradcode yes I did. In fludio using a simple chord progression and stock plugins. I agree, more difficult than I thought finally beat the game took a few tries. Actually it was harder in my first build as they don't fly at angles like they're supposed to lol

Your sound design and artwork is very cute! The run is my favorite. I had trouble getting stuck on some of the cloud edges, but normally a second try got over it. Fun little game :)

Controls were a little strange to figure out (including how to quit), but the artwork and BGM were really great!

I wish the controls were a bit tighter. Specifically I'd rather fall than cling on to clouds. It also would be nicer to see the walls that block me into the game area. Also - it might make it feel a bit more that I'm in control if I could see further out, then I could navigate away from crows.

Really liked this, it was well made and had some good polish. As an artist I also really loved the artwork and sound design. all very well done.

Could use some work here and there, but honestly that is completely fine for a game done in such a short ammount of time.

Adorable running animation xD I could only jump with left control, kind of an odd button to use for jumping, made the controls feel unnecessarily clunky. Music was nice and sprites looks good :)

Amazing drawings. Reminds me a bit of doodle jump.

I wish there was a play/replay button of sorts so i could more easily try again.

The platforming controls are fairly rough, but the graphics were great (especially the run animation.. ahahaha!) and the music kept me playing long after I otherwise would have. Something about that techno beat gave me twitch skill confidence I shouldn't have had, like I could just dance through the air between those birds! It ended unhappily for me every time ;)

@ironygames great idea, and great reference doodle jump was a major inspiration. I was trying for that really interesting robot unicorn attack style

HiJinx update notes:

to add before feedback:
glitterfx emission on flight,

invincibility/ speed/ jumpForceUp powerup item,

add in other enemy types

fix tutorial crow on floor, move into play area

enhance graphics and animation strongest asset pushed more can make this special

fix crow angle randomness prefab

remake title and game over cards to remove pixilation

widen play area

possible touch control and mobile support

witch time (slowdown)

upside down (trick) flying


feedback changes:

remap space bar to jump

smooth difficulty curve, less crows up front, more later on

set physics material so you don't get stuck on clouds,

bounce as a mechanic later? rain clouds?

maybe disappearing clouds and momentum boosting clouds.

hard limits to the edges maybe buildings, opportunity for zdepth telephone poles

put controls in game

tighten controls. Basically playtesting to adjust values to keep jump snappiness after first few upgrades

show cat on cloud and floor so you realize you can jump on clouds

That looks really nice! :)

The music is also great. The controls are a bit iffy, and as others noted, a display on the remaining flight power would help tremendously.

Also, there is a long pause on Game Over and the title that I can't skip. And the crows are really mean higher up.

Other than that, very neat and polished entry!

There's a little bit of a delay when starting the run and when the running animation starts. This is usually because the animation transition has "Has Exit time" check marked! That might help make your controls feel more snappy. Cute artwork and background music :)

Nice graphics :) The controls a bit off, and as other have said, it get hard really quickly, lines of crows.

@courtmac you were right about exit time. I missed some of the transitions. Though it seems to still a bit of delay

@ilya-nazarov I've started softening the difficulty.

@rednaxelus agreed, I don't know much about optimization, but looking at the profiler it seems to be the textures and star particles.
