Gameplay

Your objective is to make your way through the dark cave, while not allowing the flame you carry to die. Keep an eye on it as the light diminishes, because when the fire dies, it's game over. Bats accelerate the rate at which the flame burns out, and if you fall too deep in water the flame will die inmediatly.

Controls

  • Directional arrows - Movement
  • Space - Jump

it will be difficult to get reviews if its downloadable. Try to churn a web version :)

I was able to download it, but it is a .rar file, so will have to use something like 7zip to open it up. Interesting concept, but I wish I found a way to rekindle the flame! (Sorry if i missed it!)

@vivek-sharma20 Thanks, I had some problem exporting with Godot but I already made one!

@jacobingalls I made a .zip, and also made a web version. Because the level is that short, I found it too easy if I made a way to rekindle the flame. But now it might be too difficult, I guess. It was kinda hard to find the perfect balance.

Made an update fixing a small bug that sometimes made the flame grow and added a web version. :)

Unfortunately when I run the webgl version on itch it hides a good chunk of the screen, I didn't see a way to fullscreen it but maybe I was missing something.

However I did download it and it was very cute and fit the theme well! The music was lovely and the game was intuitive. Good work!

Great game, it is definetly one of the best I've played for mood in this jam.

Hi there. Love the game. Just because you had the same idea I had. Please checkout my game as well.

I beat it on the first try! But I think I got lucky, honestly - especially around some of the water areas. The light/shadow idea is really cool and well implemented. I also thought the music and sfx were good, and they complimented the art style well. Nice job!

Quick reminder to get more players: Use a thumbnail for your game. Otherwise your game is presented with this grey box. Some great Games are not played because of a missing thumbnail ... You can still change it by editing your submission page :)

@pilarius Thanks, I had a cover but the image didn't upload apparently. I already fixed it.

I think if you had the camera further out the entire experience of the light dying would hit harder, even if you wanted the camera to move closer as the light died to really hit home how small your view is getting

@forging-foxes Thanks! The camera is something I didn't play around with. I don't know if I'd put it further out, but I'd definitely make some changes to it.

Looks good! I saw that you used Godot, good choice  It was a little short and lacked in game mechanics beyond the whole platforming thing. Maybe adding in collectibles would help? Still, fun game, nice job!

A mechanic where the torch dies out slowly but there are spots to re-ignite it would have been good for this game.

Cute art, and I think the concept is interesting and worth expanding on.

Art and audio were good. In terms of gameplay, it felt a little frustrating to have the character so close to the camera. I was not able to see all the places where I could go and after some time the light decreased and I was completely lost.

It was a good choice for the theme "Keep it Alive", fits quite nicely. There is an issue with the sound effect of the foot steps for the player, try using (AudioStreamPlayer) instead of (AudioStreamPlayer2D) since there is no need for left audio input or right audio input. Overall great Job, I love Godot and like to see many people using the Engine for the Jam

Great artwork, sound effects, and music! I agree about having a web version (thanks for adding it!) and the camera issue. I also am among those who would like to have a way to rekindle. Otherwise a great job!

@djn Thanks! This is what we could achieve in 72 hours, but we liked what we did so we are considering to make more levels and add stuff.

@lou-bagel I agree, but I think this level would be too easy if we added that. As we are considering adding more levels eventually, we could add that.

@whatnamegames Thanks, we are considering to do so.

@spirits Thanks, it has been a lot of time since I used Godot so I wasn't sure about that, I'll change that. I love Godot too, and using Godot 3 has been great so far (last time I used Godot was 2017 I think).

@bonder Thanks! I think we'll add a mechanic involving rekindling the flame on next levels.

Cool use of light in a 2D platformer. It does feel quite claustrophobic at times. Wasn't sure if enemies/water were affecting my torch, maybe some animation/indicator for that (sorry if there is one and I missed it). Music was relaxing.

@eldogg The torch goes out faster, but there is no explicit animation. Maybe that's a change we should implement, thanks.

YOU HAVE MY FAVORITE CHORD CHANGE IN YOUR SONG! Now that I got that out of the way, I love this game. It feels good and sounds good. Simple but shows the theme really well and gets the job done.

Again...LOVE that full-step to the 7 chord change....yessss.

@drums Thanks! I just had to think quick for a chord change that would blend well into the atmosphere and I think it worked out.

Small but effective game! We really feel the anxiety of running out of fire.

I just notice a little problem : in full screen I was able to see the map border, a part of the screen wasn't dark, so we get a bit out of the vibe.
