The Pongs by schizoid2k

[raw]
made by schizoid2k for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Poor Pongs... they have been bouncing around computer screens for decades. Help them get a break by nudging them out of the vortex loop.

A/D or Left/Right arrow keys moves your motivational coaxing device.

Space bar sends a nudge.

The game allows you to choose the number of Pongs and the vortex speed.

Yes, it's all here!

  • The blips and bloops of days gone by.

  • The incredibly annoying chiptune music.

  • Some other third thing!

Music is fine, but bip are like noise, fun use of the voice to create some song. I like the parameter selection before run. Nice work.

I like that the game has a simple and intuitive concept, that it places the user first by adjusting to how hard the user wants it to be, and that you can play it directly in your browser. I think the background tune is brilliant and the sound you get on completion made me chuckle. Overall a great, if simple, game.

Cool concept and idea execution. I also think the "bip" sounds are a little bit off or just too loud, but I love the "yay" sounds they make, so cute :)

I kinda like the bips, made me feel like I was at a retro arcade machine. I liked the game, it's simple, kinda hypnotic, and nice use of theme.

Unfortunately, I was not able to get very far because the space bar causes the screen to scroll on the HTML5 version.

I loved how fun and smooth the game was, especially once I turned "It's too cruel" on. One suggestion I have would be to add something that shows how much time has passed, since I think that shows you your score better than the number of blips. I would also recommend for the triangle to be moved faster since it feels a little slow to maneuver. Cute game otherwise!

Very nice and cute game! It took me 207 nudges to save the 10 pongs at max speed with double cortex. A bit hard but still cool to play.

@rmheuer Sorry to hear that. It may be because the browser window was the active focus, and not the game window.

@jerry-xu Thanks for the suggestions. These are great ideas.

Thanks to everyone for playing!

I liked this a lot!! Simple but fun. Would love to have seen a high-score/leaderboard, keeping track of the lowest number of nudges you needed to save them :)

Fun little game with nice sound effects, but it felt like luck played the biggest part in the gameplay.
Controls are a bit too slow for me.

A nice, simple little game, it is very difficult though with the small projectile size, the size of the pongs and timing the movement of the pongs and the circle. I've not seen a puzzle game with those particular mechanics though, good job :)

Such a clever idea for the theme, and those little squares are so adorable, great job :)

Cool game, easy to pick up and play and I found it a bit original :)

The Pongs are adorable and the game is easy to understand and play. I like that it has a very configurable difficulty. I would change the "nudger" to something that is not rotation symmetric, because while the offset is enough to see which direction it is facing it would be easier to see with a different shape (e.g. reduce the base of the triangle).

cool little mechanic, simple but fun. felt like I was playing an old NES game :). I think this would work well as a minigame in some larger game! I like that you added the option to tweak the rules, cool thing to add in a game jam where things are basically prototypes. My personal favourite is 4 pongs and fast speed. Just one vortex though, 2 is crazy :)

Game is quite ok. Nice settings of difficulty, but no audio control is a little pain. Good for mobile phones to kill the time in boring travel by train.

I enjoyed being able to set my own difficulty - haven't seen this in this LD yet! Audio and graphics very cute.

At first I thought the spikes were dangerous to touch and was scared because it seemed really hard, but once I realized they weren't it was much more relaxing & fun.

neat concept! I think if you made the center gun's rotation freely controlled by mouse, you could crank up the intensity and it would be super fun. It just felt a bit tedious rotating around at a fixed rate. Overall, though, awesome playabe entry!

This game is great! I love the "annoying" chiptune music, it really set the mood. I also like 10 Pongs/Normal Speed/Double Rings. Took me 154 nudges to get two out!
