Faze by Xenoxygene

You're a squirrel in a world full of... never mind, it's empty for now. So empty that, in fact, there aren't even any bounds keeping you from navigating it.
It's up to you to build it by collecting its pieces throughout the nothingness!
You don't have to collect everything, but if you do...
Use the arrows to move and space to jump on keyboard. Use the joystick to move and button A to jump on controller. (Windows Version recommended)
Adrien "Xenoxygene" Duporge // Alessandro "alexzen" Famà // Bastien "Morilia" Bodineau // Eva "Emblask" Gerbert-Gaillard // Pierre "Hurley" Zanettacci // Nathan "Raitozan" Desages
Update 1: Bug fix about golden acorn and arrow tracking
Update 2: Added WebGL build
Update 3: Fixed a bug where camera borders worked improperly + some QoL fixes (all builds updated)

((also kudos for having a linux build ;3)))
Awesome job!
One thing I think would make it much better would be some kind of indicator where are the teleport borders. I mean, sometimes going to the side lets you jump off a platform to land from top, but as a level expands you often are teleported to other side before you reach the edge to jump. This makes it requre a little bit of trial and error aproach.
Still, I love how softly and fluently the world is expanding with each upgrade, great job!
Would have added credits at the end :).
I love the way you introduced the mechanics, it was very intuitive, also the movement felt incredibly polished.
Also also you included an Indicator of where to go! I don't know how often I have commented under similar games that something like that makes a game a lot less tideous.
The graphics are incredibly clean and nice, which is extra impressive for such a short time and the audio was very good as well.
I don't know what to say other than I hope you win this ludum dare! (I haven't seen all submissions of course but this one is the best by a landslide!) 5/5 on everything except humor, you should have opted out of that.
If you want the best experience, play the windows version (WebGL seems to freeze after a while)
@ausstein Thank you for such a nice comment! You literally pleased everyone on the team and it greatly boosts our morale as we want to pursue making games in the future. As for the humor, you're right, we discussed it and actually didn't if know we should remove it but humor wasn't what we aimed for when creating Faze. I removed it now ^^
@ausstein thanks a lot for your review  and ty for the humor advice, I didn't know we could remove it from ratings

In the end, I downloaded it and tried it over. The bare minimum lag was experienced this time, there were no music glitches either, and I got this! :sunglasses:

Favorite points:
* The screen wrap was incredibly well done. Combined with great level design, it really stood out to me.
* Making everything pretty and alive was very gratifying, and well executed.
* Possibly my favorite part, would be the way things were revealed. I believe its a shader? The way they just sort of... "phased" into existence, was so good, and made a great first impression
I did feel like the character momentum was off at one point, but I think I got it now. I also sort of wish I could have somehow peeked at the other side of the map before jumping off the screen. Not sure how you'd work with that, though. Maybe having it seamless from one side to the other? Like walking around the planet. Might confuse players though so
Anywho, amazing job.
And yes, I got the golden acorn. Twice XD
The WebGL version I think it has some kind of sound bug (the sound is distorting). Maybe it's just me, but it really messes up the experience. So I went on and downloaded it.
@archimagus Gonna check it out ^^
The game feels quite fresh and the screen wrapping and expansion of the landscape are implemented in a really satisfying way. Seeing how everything comes alive and together is simply gorgeous :)
Very fine entry :)
Enjoyed it a lot!
The only drawback: The audio lags are brutal in the web version (didnt test the win version) Do you know why? Browser. Chromium 77
@guckstift Thank you for your review :D We do not know what causes the lag in the web version but it might have to do with some poor optimization on our side, we are going to tweak some things and update the WebGL version. In the meantime, Windows version doesn't have any issue!
And the little added details each time we get the target is cool!
The jump of the squirrel is a little bit too heavy and maybe it's better to use gravity acceleration when the squirrel is jumping?
A Good 'Side-Squirroller'. Good execution of the theme, progressive build-up of the layers.
Suggestion:
- Character Unlockables or Random Chosen Player Character:
e.g - Squirrel, Chipmunk, Flying Squirrel, Marmot, etc..)
- Potential for local-multiplayer:
- "Keep-away"; Squirrels playing domination of the possession of the acorns towards their seed-bunker.
Look forward towards further expansion of the levels and wraparound sorcery! :dizzy:
Beautiful game! It perfectly matches the theme, great music, super cute squirrel! Awesome job!
