Gluttony by Prackli

[raw]
made by Prackli for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

You play as a gluttonous creature with infinite hunger. You need to find enough food to keep it alive! The only way to quench your hunger is by finding the legendary Golden Onigiri, the only issue that it was last seen in a forest full of angry Mushies.g2.png Untitled.png

Post Jam Change log: I tweaked the camera to not give headache. I tweaked the JumpForce and Gravity Scale.

I enjoyed this but because the camera also follows you when you jump you can't see what's under you when you jump creating quite frustrating moments.

Very fun game, with nice graphics and cute characters, but maybe there's not enough time to find food.

The controls don't feel right and the camera following the player is really hard on the eyes making it extremely hard and incomfortable to play. But the idea is cool, graphics and music are nice and the theme is here, I'd love to play a version with camera and controls fixed.

The only aspects that I think could need some work is the camera movement, it's really jumpy right now. And a jump buffer for if you jump off platforms. Right now when I want to jump of the ledge, the character doesn't end up jumping and that feels very unsatisfying. For the rest I enjoy the way the game looks and sounds, and it's fun to play.

I really wanted to like this game because it looks great and I like the idea. However, the jump mechanic made it almost impossible to play. The second you press space, you lose all sight of the ground and any obstacles nearby. Also, there's no way to lessen the amount you jump, if the jump physics were worked out, this could have been a lot of fun.

Cute characters and nice little tune in the background. Jumping is a bit too abrupt and with the enemy following you after you jump over them. I often landed on top of them and die.

I enjoyed pixel art a lot. Music as well, and SFX are very cool too.
I struggled a bit with controls, mostly the jump key sadly. Collisions with platforms also put me a bit in trouble, but I had lots of fun anyway. Good job! (-:

Cute looking game! The jump is too hard for my taste, as it moves the camera very violently; perhaps it would benefit from some more air time.

Wow that's fun. The pixel art is really good! I like how you have to learn the level. Great controls. I disliked the jumping speed at first, but it grew on me and it made it so that I could play the game much faster.

I think I would have more fun if there were save points... I guess it depends on what you were going for.

Solid platformer! Could use a bit of tweaking on the gravity but other than that no issues. as for the camera if you are using cinema chine (which I highly recommend) then all you need to do is make the dead zone height bigger and uncheck look ahead y. hope that helps!

@1PunnyGuy44 I was using a script to attach the camera to my character. I will definetely check out cinemachine, Thank you!

@zypo I think currently its too short to use save points

@1PunnyGuy44 Your tip worked out, I tuned the gravity and jump force and added Cinemachine follow cam Now it's much better

I really like the feel of this, the platforming feels super nice. The only critique I have is that the enemies feel a little too responsive to the player making them a little tough to dodge. Other than that it's a fun game.

@jdk2209 thank you, really, but my feelings for my game are mixed looking back after 2 weeks, it feels I could have made better.

I found this platformer very difficult! I could not make it to the second mushroom after many tries! I like the art and the sound suits well.
I think more time should be given for the hunger bar, because even after playing through many times, and knowing where the spikes and enemies are, I still managed to misjump a ledge or not quite get over an enemy and since theres no checkpoints, its very unforgiving.

@louiejams Thank you, yea the difficulty was intetional. For some reason I like the harder games rather than the casual ones, because they make you feel acomplished once you learn them and beat them.

It is certainly unforgiving because you need to learn the level to be able to make it everywhere in time (you don't initially know where the food is) and with every learning experience you have to start over from the beginning. Some will like that, some will not :). There are games out there that require you to practically memorize a level before you can beat it.

However, if you plan on making this into a bigger game - so checkpoints between levels (not during a level) would be a must.

It is a competent platformer with a twist and a nice idea definitely. Graphics are alright and I positively LOVE the grin on a main character. And the mushrooms are smart, damn them! That definitely surprised me - here I was just jumping over a mushroom and it changes direction on me! Sneaky! I liked that :)
