DEVELOPMENT
Our first game made together as a pair and the very first game ever for @teto after having only picked up drawing and animation a week and a half before jam! We may have been a little too ambitious but learnt a lot as we went along! Worked like mad for the whole 3 days and produced a ridiculous amount of content although there were a few bits we had intended to include that we had to cut out.
Written code and sfx all done by @ciaranw . Graphics and level design by @teto . Animation, concept and everything else was an awesome joint effort!
TOOLS
Engine: Godot
Graphics: Krita
Sound: Audacity
THANKS FOR PLAYING AND ENJOY!
Post-release Changelog
Show 'E' interact marker even when not in range
Hook up unconnected 'egg splat' sound for basket hit
Fix egg counter slipping under 0 when losing eggs you didn't have
Add extremely simple game over notification

Although I was a bit confused at first (I didn't talk to the chicken lady and went straight into the barn to collect eggs, which didn't really end well x3), this game is pretty fun!
The graphics are nice, they could be improved with more "texture" to them (I'm thinking things like lighting and shadows), but considering that you were only two and had only so little time to do it, and that you made many, many graphics, I'd say they're nice!
The game controls really fine and is fun to play!
Maybe the lack of background music is the main downside, but once again it is one that I can understand considering that this is a game jam game with only two people working on it!
Overall, fun idea, nice game, and I'm sure that with a little more time on your hands it would have been even better!

I like how you split the game up into several areas, so you have a fair chance to progress but can also go back to the previous area.
A little background music (or farm noise) would have been nice, but for the short time given, the game turned out really good!
It is indeed not obvious from the game itself that you should equip yourself before venturing forth and there really should be something happening when you get to 0% durability (I missed the fact that I died few times ;)). Some more audio and background music would really bring it out.
Bullets could be a bit bigger, it was hard to dodge them. Basket item certainly add a flavor, but I think it's not necessary. When I wanted to buy machine gun I could barely afford I just went through the level and came back with baskets to pick up eggs after that.
Art looks awesome, I just wish there were some more sound effects, like for walking.
Cheers!
Good job guys, keep it up!
I really enjoyed playing it!
It was a bit confusing at start, 'cause it doesn't start with weapon. Maybe it could start with a initial weapon and basket and then acquire better ones with the chicken.
The things I liked most are the mood, graphical effects and SFX!
It overall quite fun. Is there an ending mechanic? Once I have freed all my chicken friends, I staid stuck without nowhere to go.
Good job!

I found the machinegun to be way more effective than the flamethrower, so I went for two machine guns as early as possible. Most of the "bad guys" didn't even react to getting shot as I guess the distance was too high for them to see me. So they just stood there and and died in peas.
Your inventory actually being visible in the game and rotating around you is a pretty fierce detail btw. Had fun, great game, well done!
And as much as I loved the time I had, there are (of course) several things that bugged me. I'll skip the missing musical score, because I guess you wanted that too, but didn't have the time for it. No big deal!
- Running speed was too slow for the size of the maps. There was lot of backtracking involved in finding all the precious eggs and it felt like my time was wasted a bit. Increases to the running speed would've made great upgrades!
- The bullets were WAY to small. I had to squint to see them on top of the floorboards. Since getting hit can get troublesome very fast, clear visuals for the bullets is a must have.
- The enemies were very good at shooting the robo-egg, a bit too good. They were already starting to shoot from off-screen and, with the way the shooting works with the robo-egg, it was almost impossible to hit the enemeies back with accuracy, since the bullets targeted the mouse cursor. Also, I don't like getting shot by enemies off-screen. I think they should adhere to the same visual limits as I have to :) they may shoot, but the aim should off!
- The flamethrower was not a good weapon. It basically killed my run after purchasing it, because I had to get in relatively close. In the last level, that was the last you want. I instantly died after three of the factory workes ganged up on me.
- Some checkpoints or save spots for when you died would've been great. The game is pretty long for a jam title and death awaits behind the next corner. It was a but frustrating to die and having to start all over (especially with the slow running speed)
So much for feedback. Loved your little game nontheless. Thanks!
Cheers
By the way, I found the initial possession of 25 eggs combined with the prices in the store pretty good, it basically made "peashooter + shield + basket" the only reasonable seeming option (to me that is), so the game basically "forced" me to discover the key mechanics on my own in a space where I dind't have much to lose. That's the kind of thing easily overlooked during development, when to you all the mechanics are perfectly clear and you sometimes fail to realize players have no clue what's going on initially. So whether that piece of "balancing" was fully intentional or not, it certainly proved helpful.
PS: I just realized that the video on YouTube is still only 2 hrs long, because I streamed for longer than that. Please check back in a couple of hours, then it should work!
The text was done in the last hour and clicking through would definitely be a good idea also so it's not looping and will be added if we decide to develop this post-jam! Slow movement speed is also something we had a lot of feedback about so we will speed the walking up or maybe add a run/dash button like you suggested which would mix things up nicely. We did intend to do more enemies but a grenade-type sounds awesome and will definitely be something I'll have fun drawing!
Like I said in the description, we didn't get time to add an ending screen for when you free all the chicks but well done on completing it and thank you again! Learnt a lot from your playthrough!
(PS thank you for appreciating the belt! A lot of work went into that! Especially since Ciaran wanted everything to be 8-directional so everything had to be drawn 8 times...)
Awesome art but everything was so damn tiny! The biggest offender of course being the bullets. Seeing them was near impossible. Of course this got better on the later levels with better contrast but they just would need to be bigger. The text was also too tiny and didn't even fit the box.
The shop really suffered from the tinyness too. And not like there was any shortage of screen estate here...

Could have used some descriptions for the items too.
The control scheme wasn't great for someone playing on a touchpad without actual buttons. It was physically impossible to shoot both weapons at the same time so I just had to work around with using one. And of course I bought a second one before realizing this and postponed by machine gun (overpowered goodness in comparison) purchase by a lot. There was like no reason to bind weapons to individual buttons. I mean, why would you only shoot one of them?
The enemies felt too bullet spongy and it was too easy to outrange them. And even before I started outranging them, I was just zigzagging back and forth while keeping the mouse button pressed. Not the most encaging combat really. The action even felt kinda slow. And those long egg gathering runs and laps back to shop made it even slower. There could be a fun functionality (just off combat maybe) to make these shopping trips more bearable. Or maybe the vendor could kinda follow you from a safe distance so that the shop would never be that far. The enemy hitbox also felt wonky. It seemed like I kinda had to hit them on the head part of the sprite. And same for sure didn't seem to apply to the player character. The bad accuracy didn't really help either, just made the pacing even slower.
Also would have been nice to reorganize the eqipped stuff on the mech egg. Guess the positions didn't really matter much though. The equip wheel thing could have described better too. Sure it's kinda obvious now after playing and of course has always been crystal clear to yourself but it was confusing at first. Also would have been cool if you didn't limit to just two weapons. I wanted weapons all around the mechgg! And for more strategy in equipping stuff you could do something like shields doing more when they're on front or getting a bonus for having same pieces right next to each other or something along those lines.
Soo, I'm not sure what was supposed to happen here...

While first clearing the room, I was careful not to shoot the cages because it wasn't clear whether I was killing or freeing them. And after clearing the room I saw the message and started blasting them. But still nothing. And it was very tedious to mow them all down because even the cages had too much health. And the lingering hitbox on them was super annoying too.

So yeah, that was the end of my run. Pretty fun game, just would require some slight improvements. Good job!
A few improvements that could be made (some of these are probably mentioned already):
-The walking speed would have been great if it was about twice as fast. Backtracking to collect eggs/heal ended up taking quite a while to just get to where you wanted to go.
-Being able to shoot enemies through fences as well as being able to shoot them without them reacting at all made parts a bit too easy.
