Punch_To_Survive by Grommel

[raw]
made by Grommel for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

There are just a few days before the lockdown !

Your City Mall has become a battlefield and you need to fight your way through it to feed your family ! Don't give up now, your children are counting on you !

Maybe the lockdown inspired us too much...

EDIT Bug fix : We fixed the bug in which the player couldn't lose if they punched too many grandmas. We didn't expect people to punch that many of them. We were expecting you to be better but you never listen, do you ? The player can now play while using WASD. The knife UI is now visible when the player can throw a knife.

Was a decent game. SFX were obviously just Roblox. And for some reason I could kind of move with WASD but not really. Was fine when I switched to arrow keys though. Good effort!

would you please add the directional arrows as an option for movement
* edit

I replayed it now with the directional keys and i found it quite funny, abit clunky movement but its alright. i enjoyed playing this made me laugh :)

Hey, for my keyboard layout, WASD didn't work. The gameplay is somewhat fun but a bit confusion, and I didn't really get the point of the game. Cool though

Sort of depressing, sort of fun. I wasn't losing for some reason. Also, every once in a while I would throw something?

Thanks for your reviews and I hope you had fun while playing our game !
I took the sounds of death on Youtube, I didn't know it was from Roblox. Never played it. ^^

There might be some troubles with the WASD because we created the game in azerty (baguette) but the directional arrows should be working. Sorry for this issue. ^^"

What do you mean by it's necessary to add lose scenarios ? There is one actually. The game is kind of a survival game so there is no win scenario.

At first I was not sure who is meant to be punched and who isn't. I thought everybody needed punching at first, then some grandmas came through and it seemed to be fine. I felt like I was not informed enough to understand what I need to do. Just experimenting a bit I noticed the grandmas are meant to go through, but the kids in hoodies and hipsters aren't.

Of course, *then* I decided to read the intro text (which falls off-screen for me on the HTML5 build - I had to go full screen to see it). Now I understand. I think. I lost two hearts but only grandmas came through.

The art is clear, but I would have liked clearer visual clues on who to punch. Additionally, there's inconsistent scaling, which is a pet peeve of mine. Blown-up pixelart hearts at the top, fine resolution sprites elsewhere.

You used audio from other sources and so you should have opted out of the Audio category. For that I can only score low I am afraid.

All in all, I would advise considering how and what you communicate to the player. If you can avoid explaining through pre-game text, do so.

All that said, I did have some fun, but I wish there was more to it.
