Polygons of Light by Poulpint

[raw]
made by Poulpint for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

If the game window isn't fitting right, try putting the game in fullscreen and killing yourself once. This will reload the level properly :p

You are a little shadow willing to reach the salad flag, while staying in the dark! Being in the light will gradually harm you. Hold left-click to move !

The game was made by a few people from the French Game Design Club CELL (thanks for the song guitou!).

Play on Windows for a better experience !

The theme of the ludum dare 46 was "Keep it alive".character1.pnglogo CELL.png

Like the music! I enjoy the challenge of the light puzzles. It wasn't clear to me that sometimes you do need to go through the light to finish the puzzle (i.e it's not instant death). Otherwise great stuff!

Nice little puzzle game. I enjoyed the puzzles and as @synystercola noted the lack of instadeath that is usually a cornerstone in these types of games was refreshing and added a new level to the puzzles. Also, the music was entertaining in it self  Thanks for the game.

The character is a bit too float but it still was pretty fun (and I like the space background effect)! Maybe wall at the border of the screen might be useful so it don't come out of the camera view

I like the game ! Interesting idea =D
I did have some little light displaying bug and some tima (like the end panel) that as slower, but it's not really a problem, bon travail !

Cool game! Really liked the end screen effect as well. The areas where I was supposed to hide were a bit smaller than the player sprite sometimes and it became a bit tougher.

Wow! I got some light problems too, but is a great game!

Nice game ! Kinda hard to understand how the different mechanics are working though.
Especially it's kinda hard to stay in a small moving shadow area.
Great level design and the core mechanic is really well coded !
I really like the idea that you don't die instantly in the light.
(Hi from the ENSIIE btw :D And thanks for your review on our game \o/)

I enjoyed playing this game! The movement felt quite intuitive and natural to me. The game concept is also nice and well executed!

Really liked this game. Initially I was confused by the moving mechanic but I got the hang of it eventually. The graphics fit this game perfectly and the music is also great.

I liked the game, I didn't like the shadow movement, it was a bit annoying, nice graphics

Very interesting and innovative mechanics, I'd love to see more tbh! :) I like that it's very clear what you need to do and still very relaxing.

Cool concept, and some nicely designed puzzles in there as well! Unfortunately there still seem to be some technical issues, as one of the levels and the end screen were fairly laggy and another had faulty shadows for me on the web player, which I had to use because the windows build would not give me a 16:9 window when playing on my 4:3 screen. (Yes, those still exist.)

Cool concept and easy to understand. I like that the game is a little bit forgiving and that you can go through light, it's actually a part of the gameplay.

Nice idea here, you start the game you know what to do, well done.

Very neat concept, you were able to create fairly complex puzzles with a super simple mechanic, this is great example of good and innovative game design. Good job!

Nice game concept. Could be a little bit more difficult. It was too easy to beat in my opinion.

Cool idea. I think the execution is still a bit rough and the lighting and shadow effects could use some work to look a bit better, but the core gameplay works pretty well. Had some problems with strange light hitboxes that killed me but all in all, it works as intended. The music is low beat but soothing. Some sound effects would've been awesome to wrap things up. The art itself (I guess mainly the main character) was fair enough, could be improved a bit to give it a little more personality

Quite fun, pretty short though. The light/shadow interaction looks really cool, I also like how the light pushes you. Definitely a lot of potential!

Neat concept! Very creative. There were some frame rate issues on the levels with lots of moving parts, but other than that I encountered no bugs or weird issues. I had lots of fun with this one. The music was relaxing. The design is simple but it works (your logo looks nice too). Great job.

The End!
Felt responsive, Level 4 and the end screen got pretty laggy, but other then that, it was running smoothly.
The music was 11/10 haha, graphics where simple but well made, fitting to the rest of the game style, i liked the bluring effect underneath the shadow.

Short but solid!

This was a challenge! Occasionally I was really confused as to where my character went to- Something as "simple" as a chime or a graphic letting me know might be a helpful addition. As far as the mechanic of staying in the shadows- I love it. I am just reading your notes- which I avoid as standard until after the game, but you address the issues I had with the web version. Over all a nice chill jam! Thanks! Oh, also- you should check out Retrobulbar- https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/retrobulbar it is different, but I thought of it immediately- probably because you share an abundance of yellow, but also- puzzles.

Great. Controls felt a little easy/precise when I found you could just hold down the left click button. The Aesthetic of the game indicated that the motion would be more chaotic. Like an asteroid in space.

SImple design but it serves the purpose. When I got to level 4, I could not really see the red flag (the frame was cut off) and it got a bit laggy as of the controls. But overall nice puzzle game. Good job.

Great job with your game! I really enjoyed playing through it. I like how you designed some of your levels and the way in which you used moving shapes and light sources to create areas of light and dark that you had to move between. It was interesting too to first figure out that you had to go through the light to complete the level and that you wouldnt die immediately. As others said, there were some framerate issues but not too big of a deal. I wish the levels weren't too much of a waiting game at points and that there was more difficulty with how precise you could move. But great job! Love the music too

"try putting the game in fullscreen and killing yourself once" well I have done this but my friend had to give me mouth to mouth so I could write this comment. Absolutely love the idea! especially where the level design corresponds much more with moving light and shadows

In this section, you get hurt even if you are in the darkness. I also had some framerate issues on level 4.
