Parasist by

made by for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Goal

The objective is to keep alive your parasite. By controlling your host, you will have to face different situations, to make choices and try to be as healthy as possible. The only way for you to know what you are facing is to use the indications on your screen and your imagination...

Choose your host and infect it

parasist1.png

Try to keep the level of the gauges (mood, energy, hunger and peepoo) above zero. But be sure not to be suspicious in the eyes of your daddy and to pay attention to your health. Make your choices using the indications below the gauges given by the senses of the host and use your imagination...

parasist2.png

Every 5 choices, you will be able to upgrade one of your senses to be able to enjoy more precise descriptions of the scene

Try to survive for the greatest number of days !

IMPORTANT : Don't play the otter for too long, it is meant to be a very quick game to discover the gameplay, the dog and the cat have a lot more unique events and the game should also be a lot more challenging and interesting (particularly for the cat).

Nice game. I've tried the otter, and get it to the max I guess. Little "bug" : game told me I can select a new skill, but the skilltree was already completed, and so I got stuck on the skilltree page.
I think I would have liked to have all actions available ( eat, attack, play, etc.. ) every time. Available actions kind of give more clue than it needs.
Bon petit jeu en tout cas !

I like what you are doing with this game. It needs greater depth, which takes some time. The engine is nice, and the game looks really good.

Awesome little game! I also maxed out the otter skill tree and got stuck at the skill selection page. Overall nice art, good humor, and moody music :) Great job!

I really loved this game ! I was a bit lost at the beginning, then I understood the gameplay and took a nice time playing. It's very interesting to imagine the situation through small informations.
Great job !

Played on Easy. Fantastic idea and execution.

Would love some end screen upon fully upgrading the host, but game is game jam :)

Fun overall but ran into a game breaking bug. Level up when everything is max (softlocked)

This is a really nice game, and as far as I know ,great unique gameplay mechanics. I had fun playing it but after upgrading skills, I knew everytnihg that was in front of me (in the game) and the game difficulty became pretty easy. Also it took me a while to figure out why did eating the bowl replenished all my stats. It was the food in that bowl that was being eaten XD! And overall nice job

Really nice game :purple_heart: ! I tried all levels, but could not finish the cat (I only tried twice though). As others, I have been softlocked on a maxed skill window. Maybe it could be improved by detecting it and let the player decide to continue or going to the title screen (but it was no big problem, since reloading the page led to the title screen). I think there was a slight bug, because with the cat, I think I clicked a "flee" button, but the action described after that was an attack. Anyway, really lovely game, I enjoyed playing it a lot !

Hi everyone and thank you for your heartwarming comments! The bug of the skills screen that couldn't be closed should be fixed now. Please tell us if you still encounter it.

I believe that the outcome of your actions should be a bit more clear and the events themselves happen with too little variance.

Art and music is pretty good and the idea itself is also great.

Nice game, although you can get stuck if you have all perks and earn enough xp to have one more.

Loved the concept, artwork and music work together really well. Four different story choices was impressive (I only got to play the first two- Otter and Dog). If you had more time it may have been worth adding a 'finished tutorial' in the Otter one as I got to day 30 and hadn't leveled up for a long time plus was getting repetitive (perhaps change the order of some of the button but I'm not sure). I found myself wanting a bit more story but the overall concept makes this a really nice game.

Cool concept, really wanted to play the dinosaur you troll 😂 But cool art, the otter gameplay got boring after I figured out what everything was with the max upgrades there's nothing to cause me to lose, so I just kept eating fish and shells and running away from cars and stuff. I figured by the description, that humans would check me for parasites at random times.

Thanks for the review everyone ! And we should have mentioned it, but the otter is meant to be a very quick game to discover the gameplay, the dog and the cat have a lot more unique events and the game should also be a lot more challenging (particularly the cat).

Alright ! I like the concept, it's fun to feel like a parasite with no understanding of our world, and to be a human-playing-a-parasite-playing-an-animal.
