Keep your heart beating by trucverte

[raw]
made by trucverte for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Wild beasts appeared in your heart, they stole heart sections and escaped in the veins.

You have to go inside your heart to fight the beast and bring back the 4 heart sections in order to keep the heart beating. ❤️

Controls

  • Click on buttons with left mouse button
  • Move your character with WASD or arrows or left stick from gamepad
  • Attack with Q or left mouse button or gamepad right shoulder
  • Defend with E or right mouse button or gamepad left shoulder (still no animation but it prevents taking damage)

There's a lot to like here, especially the idea and style, there's a lot I feel could be built upon to make a very interesting game.
For the future, I feel like my big suggestion would be to work a bit more on collision and making your impacts feel crunchy and satisfying, I think that could make fighting the enemies overall even more enjoyable, just a personal tip tho.

Cool game but whenever I hit the beast, there was only a 1/3 chance I would actually kill it.

I didn't actually do any fighting in my run of this game. Took me a while to realise you have to double-click to attack, so at first I thought the sword was just bugged, but the age-old method of sprinting past everything worked perfectly. None of the enemies could catch me. I also think the art style is a little thematically confused - you play a robot inside a painting-version of your heart fighting what look like werewolves? With all this said, just getting a game finished and playable in 72 hours is a great achievement, and there is a really good game in here if you develop on it. I agree with @christianaufiero that the combat could do with being a little more crunchy. Good luck with all your future projects, and thanks for making this!

Nice game. I like the idea. But sometimes i have to click a few times to get the character hit. Other than that, game is fun and interesting. Good work!

Was this going to be a VR game? SteamVR started when I launched the game, so I played in VR.
The menus and HUD don't work in VR and the world seems tilted, but I finished the game with keyboard and HMD.
I liked to look around and see the whole map :)

Overall, not bad. The combat could use some work, you can attack an enemy when their back is turned and they wont notice.
I enjoyed playing!

Thank you everyone for the feedback!

@coolo2o It takes 2 hits to kill a beast.

@ludevum It's not supposed to be a vr game

This is overall a fun little jam game. The fighting mechanic could need some more work, but it is okay for a jam game.
