The Last Henchman by Yoni

[raw]
made by Yoni for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

This is a spy game, but you are not the spy. You're also not the evil nemesis. You play henchman #2739, and you defend the evil lair. You're the last henchman. All of your colleagues are dead - killed protecting your incredibly irresponsible evil lord, who spent the weapons budget on overly complicated shark tanks. These tanks don't even contain sharks. Just some fish he found cheap.

Now, tied to a fish tank, shooting fish from a hose, this is your last stand.

Will you be able to defend that fiscally reckless "master mind" from the onslaught of slick spies starring in feature movies, by hitting them with third-tier fish while you're stuck looping around the one remaining fishtank?

Let's find out!

This game is our submission to Ludum Dare Jam 47, "Stuck in a loop".

I really like the idea ! Playing random henchman number 941 in a spy universe.
The game is really hard though, can't win the first level the leggit way :(.
btw, pretty funny game !

Quite a simple game concept, but the universe though, love it ahah. Nice job at finding this idea of playing the henchman !

I think the eels are very under powered. Maybe if the hose had been longer, the game would have felt more tactical and less constraint by its own concept. But you definitely get 5/5 for humor. Very funny and well-made.

A clear 5/5 in the sadly non-existing intro category! :D The game itself is fun too, but I'm just too bad at it to get to the second level. Maybe a health bar instead of instakill would be a good idea (at least for me).

Very funny idea and great intro! Game is rather hard because of the aiming. I think mouse controls could work better.

What a weird and funny concept & story behind the game! The intro and the voice acting are hilarious! The sound for shooting a (single) fish was also really funny, but somehow also a bit annoying.

The strange way of moving and aiming takes a while to get used to. Walking while dragging the tank is soooo slow, and you're so vulnerable while doing that! So I left the eels-upgrades for what they were after a while.

I felt that the diagonal bullets were really hard to dodge, since from the side the player is a way bigger target. Also, the diagonal moving enemies seemed to move faster. I found it annoying that the bullets fly through the tanks, so I couldn't hide there.

I was really struggling with shooting, there seems to be something funny with timing there. I missed something that showed how much time I had to wait until I could shoot again. At first I thought the cooldown time was just very long, since hitting the spacebar to soon wouldn't shoot another fish for a while (I could only fire my second fish once the first fish was gone). Then I tried hitting the spacebar reeeeally short and fast after each other, and saw some improvements, nut not regular. Then, not believing it would work, I hold the spacebar. Ahaaaa! This continuous shooting made the game way more playable  (but the music is less hearable now...). So in the end, my strategy was just continuous shooting, while zigzagging from left to right and back on top of my shark tank.

I enjoyed the different music and graphics for each level. Well done. :)
