YOUR RAGING SPIRIT by madbookstudios

[raw]
made by madbookstudios for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

A smash-like, 'tower-defence-like' poem? You must keep the fire alive as you try to survive a night in the woods.

As you fight of each wave of angry, fire-destroying bears, you are treated to an original poem about overcoming adversity as you protect the fire inside you that pushes you onward.

The protagonist of this game sports limbs of many colours, a grappling hook and a very powerful umbrella to defeat the bears with. The bears have water-guns, water barrels and rain-clouds to try and douse your burning fire!

Keep it Alive!

Appreciate any and all feedback, Thanks!

Nice game, I love art of the fire. The movement controllers are a lot of fun and are very snappy. I would prefer the there would be one attack button and you'll attack in the direction of the button you are clicking on. I found myself playing for three or four minutes and still making mistakes with the controllers. Great game, love the art!

My antivirus really hates your game. I loved the camera movement and the fire effect. The grab was hilarious.

That was a lot of fun! I did find it quite frustrating that the quick movement speed combined with the pretty small window for pushing back enemies meant that I was constantly running through them and missing my attacks.

Choice of weapons is very amusing. The fire is really pretty. Overall very nice game.

Some of the background/foreground camera movement threw me off a little, but the more I got a hang of the controls the more fun it was. Thanks!

Art looks great. The characters stand out on their own. The multi-coloured hands and legs were a nice touch.

Fun little thingy. I was attracted by the fire. I loved the use of parallax scrolling. It really comes off nicely. The fighting mechanics were frustrating and if there wasn't a 'continue' i'd have died two hours from the end. I think the most difficult things were the dash, i kept dashing when i didn't want to, and if i did i'd miss the bears and fly past them and that was hard. Getting up to the air guys was a choice, and it didn't seem like it was obvious which bears/clouds and things were the ones who'd do the most damage. The mood is nice and the graphics and music fit nicely. Just need to know where to go after the fire!

Wow, this is my favorite out of all the games I played in this jam this far. :) Easily 5.0 on mood, but really well made all around. Controls feel satisfying, the art is really cute, the music and sound effects do their job well, the poem adds to the already serene ambience. (Although admittedly, I only noticed it was a poem at the very end.)
Just overall really charming. Good work!

The side dash was a little confusing at first, but I got used to it close to the morning.
Victory screen really WARMED my heart.
I had a blast playing, good job.

The combat and movement felt really good in this game, really nice. I couldn't seem to get the audio working though, so that's kinda unfortunate but the visuals looked really nice.

Man, this game really feels good. The camera shake when hitting bears is satisfying. Having to throw them off reminds me a bit of smash bros.

As feedback, I see you can juggle enemies in the air with W. Since you have to wait for them to come down to hit them again, I'd really like it if you could chain the side attack with juggle to send them flying away.

Very nice game! The fire looks great, and the parallax on the valley too. Love the animals and the feel of KNOCKING THEM OFF but some camera shakes made me loose control of what I was doing and I was sad that one punch couldn't hit several enemies at once. Using the umbrella as a weapon is very cool. Also, I loved the text. Thank you for this unique experience!

So Cool! The only problem i have is the camera when I dash. It moved so fast that I felt dizzy. However, The concept is cool and the game is well made! Congrats!

This has been one of my favorite games so far this jam. It was very addicting and I found myself trying to do some sick combos with the grapple. I really enjoyed it. Nice work

Great interpretation of the theme incorporating smash mechanics. It was really easy to figure out, and get pretty good at fast. The controls could use a little tweaking, especially on the jump and dash but otherwise, I really enjoyed playing this game.

I really enjoyed this one. The controls were very responsive and art and animations were very appealing. I've never played any of the smash games but I'm going to have to look into them now.

• The game crashed MY COMPUTER after i tried to set it to full screen, so I had to force restart it and played it windowed.

• Why does the game starts without sound? You did a nice song and a nice sound design, be proud of your good work.

• For some reason my anti-virus hates your game, nothing relevant it is not the first LD game that goes through this, but important noting anyway.

• Bonus Point for bears with water guns! That just made my day.

• Bias point for defeating the enemies throwing them outside the platform, just because I love super smash bros forever.

• I think you should have put the dashing and double jump on the initial screen with the other controllers.

Other than those points, amazing work. Simple and neat game, but I had a lot of fun. The graphics match perfectly with the sounds and music, and the game play is super smooth, every single movement and combo felt so good. Great job!

Took me a little while to figure out I was playing Bear Smash Brothers, but once I got that down, everything fell into place ;) This was really fun, and I greatly appreciated that it did not reset me to the beginning when I got overwhelmed by several waves of clouds.

The art was nice (the fire was especially cool) and the animations were all fitting. The physics felt good, and while I was not always particularly adept with them, it certainly felt satisfying to slam things off-screen. I set the volume to no, but never got any sound, which would have improved the game even more.

Even so, best fighter I've played this jam so far. Great job!

Looks nice, but I'm not able to play it because I don't have Windows. Are you able to make a linux or Web export?

I like this one a lot! By reading the description I didn't understand what 'smash-like' was suppose to mean, but it made sense, when I started playing - great concept! Also I liked the parallax effect, but I think it might be a litttle too strong. I also didn't know there's appararently double jumping and dashing, as I just read in the comments. And the exploding effect when enemies are off-screen (like in Smash Bros) didn't seem to fit. Otherwise I thought the art looks really neat.
