MegaCorn is a strategy game / economy simulator

Main goal is to survive "Pyatiletka" - after this your corn tree will bloom and spread it's seeds all over the world. To do this you should give it enough water. Don't forget to feed your people - tree can't get food without humans so it will die. promo_2.png

Description

Food is literally growing on the corn tree - the only one tree in the world that can produce food so people believe that it's almost a god! You control a small settlement. Perhaps this is the only settlement in the world, because it lives around the only tree in the world that brings food. One fine day, the tree began to be covered with buds and prepare for flowering. Your task is to help the settlement achieve flowering of the tree and then the whole world will be covered with corn trees! We wish you good luck in your efforts. screeens (2).png

Team

Our team have never participated in game jams before (only 1 of us have such experience) but we've tried to do our best - hope u'll enjoy playing this game. All assets (art, soundtrack, code etc) was made by us in these 72 hours. That was really exhausting and at the same time very interesting experience. You can get more info about us on credits screen inside the game.

Instructions

Only LMB can help you win this game. Management games have never been easy. When corn tree blooming state is changed it starts to produce less food and consume more water.

Assign your people to the buildings to increase resources income.

Different types of buildings give different resources.

  • Well House gives you water but increases food consumption\
  • Fertilizer gives you food but increases water consumption
  • Cantine (we know that right word is Canteen) helps people restore energy faster
  • When you'll need more people - just send 2 citizens to the Kulturehaus (be careful, it works only if there is a pair inside)
  • If you feel lack of resources - send your civilian in Palace of Cornflakes he will be sacrificed to give your tree some water (and the tree gives you food in return)

Game rules are easy - Corn Tree gives you food. You should manage your people to get water and do your best to make it bloom soon.

The overall mood and looks of the game are really good, it took a bit to understand the game.. I think the concept has potential if you manage to make it more clear/simple!

@dnaltiam it was really hard to make balance really smooth - basically you should build some producing buildings but we're thinking about how to change it to be more casual

Realy cool game, realy impressive for a first time !
The game is fun but a little to hard for me and too fast paced for a management game in my opinion.

Quite impressive game for a jam! It's quite hard at the beginning but it's fun once you have understood.
On my second game, I had this error, I don't know if it can help you:

Really enjoyed this game. Music and art are stellar, especially for a jam. Beat it by only sacrificing 27 comrades.

Thank you very much for warm welcome!

If you tell us what exact issues are confusing and prevent you from enjoying the game, we will try to fix it and write more detailed HOW TO PLAY.

What do you guys think about screen-by-screen instructions how to build and manage resources? Or Tutorial Video?

Excellent art! I like how much you've done with such simple mechanics and just few tiles to build into. It is super hard though!

The art and music and overall aesthetic of the game is superb. It took a while to understand the mechanics but after failing a couple of times the underlying logic becomes apparent. Doesn't make it any less hard though, since you need to move around your disposable workers frenetically to keep resources balanced. Very good game with potential to become a great game.

Very nice UI, art! Something's wrong with the sound effect of decreasing the number on buildings, there's some serious clicking at the tail of it. Overall, it's a fun game once you read how to play!

The art and whole feel is fantastic, I could see my self buying this game for the art alone. Seems very polished (a few texts and sliders here and there but I guess you didn't have time)

Sound effects work great. Some soviet music would maybe be more fitting :D

I took me two runs to understand whats happening but then I got the hang of it and it became kind of easy. You can basically mass produce humans and just sacrifice them if you get too low on resources. Well, if you don't have a soul of course.

Couple of bugs/remarks:
- all numbers in the gui are negative
- water consumption seems random at times

All in all, good work guys!

Gosh that took a while to work out, but it's very pretty and fun/addictive once you're going :)
It's also hard! I know the game state kept changing, but I could really work out what had change and what I needed to do in response.

I myself planted a corn tree in my garden, don't know why it doesn't want to grow, weird thing

Good doze of humor, the pictures of the lady are just amazing.

Don't know what's going on in the cornflake palace, but must be fun (maybe some soylent green production)

Great looking game and had responsive controls to get things working. Only issue I had was trying to figure out exactly what need to happen to do what. But I really enjoyed how the game looked. Good Jam

Congrats on finishing your game on time! For me this game require too much to get into right off the back. It not just a start and play game that I enjoy. Im sure if spend more time with it however I could understand how it works. Great art and really cool ui. Web build worked fine for me :)

The game seems like there are many layers involved, which might make the programming a bit complicated. So I am a bit impressed that this was accomplished in just 3 days. Congrats on finishing your game on time by the way. The graphics are done tastefully and I noticed that all of the art matches each other well, and stay to the same color palette. The sounds fx and music are both good for the game itself and done well. Overall, it's a good entry into the jam. It's unfortunately that I don't' typically play these kinds of games so I didn't make it too far myself. I can see how someone who likes this sort of game might find it highly entertaining.

@nuckelavee13 I think you could introduce every building one by one, or make the start of the game slower so people can take more time to understand without dying. The screen-by-screen instructions thing also sounds like a good idea!

The art, music and concept are amazing (Огромный лайк за пародию на коммунизм!), but its really hard to understand what should I do, in order not to die in few seconds. Maybe a tutorial could help. Bcs it seemed like whatever I do, whatever buildings I buy nothing changes and I die anw :(

Really awesome art! It reminds me a bit of management games like Populus, or system based games like Axes and Acres. The art is fantastic. I did encounter a bug where the construction menu wouldn't disappear, which prevented me from moving forward.

I enjoyed this game, the aesthetic is great! Something I would like to see is some indication of what the different buildings are doing during gameplay. Perhaps having items visually move from your resource pool to the building or from the building to the resource pool. It seemed so fast paced that I found it difficult to react to what was going on and triage the source of the problem. Thank you for making this!

@babyking thanks for playing!
I like that you realised what's happening. As I see people can't understand basic mechanics of this game when trying to play, so you're the one who really put efforts on understanding this. UX is not very good as I see now. Tutorial may help a little and of course indication / citizen visualisation can help. We hope that in future we'll make this game better, but for ludum dare we can't make more features (we wanted to do a lot of features but it didn't physically possible as we see now. If you reallly like this game soon we'll make update where you can subscribe to devlog and get this game in more finished state =)

Incredible amounts of polish, especially for a first game jam! The art, music, and mood all fit together really well. I played a few times and while I was able to balance the water and corn for a while I still ended up losing each time; probably just need a little more trial and error. Overall nice work!

A very fun game with a quirky but cohesive art style.
The first few runs I somehow managed to place two facilities on the same square, which caused me to be unable to properly assign workers, but once I figured that out, I had some fun playthroughs.
Maybe ad a sound effect when corn or water in slow so i can catch it in time XD.
Well done, looking forward to trying your future games!

the game is so well polished but the gameplau was a little weak i feel. i felt i could just randomly put things down and wait for something to happen. still it worked, so you should be very pleased. thanks for making it.
