HamsterLoop 2020 by johnnysix

[raw]
made by johnnysix for Ludum Dare 47 (COMPO)

Save the hamsters. Control is a loop of 6 moves - some hamsters move the wrong way.

Hi the go button to move , one hamster moves the opposite way to the other, get them both to the wheel.

I ran out of time.

Wife gave me the thumbs up, I'd better make it a good one!

Cute hamsters! It took a few tries to understand the controls but eventually it made sense. I was not able to get past the first level however since the Grey hamster couldn't make the jump to the wheel :(

These types of opposite movement puzzle games always muck with my mind, yours is no different. Mind mucked with  I like the graphical style and soothing music. Nice job.

A little hard to understand the mechanic at first, but then it gets much better. Also, liked your pixel art.

The art!!!! I can tell these aren't the first hamsters you've drawn. But I'll confess, I couldn't beat stage one!

I got both of the hamsters of the first level to the hamster wheel, but they didn't want to go in or something? Don't know what I did wrong there D:

Regardless, great style you went with and music is very fitting for a puzzler. The mechanic, while struggling at first, is intuitive enough. The hamsters just... won't go into the ~~loop~~wheel! Ergh!

Thnaks to @yeomsley , @fussenkuh , @lesinvisible , @roolow & @trexxak for playing!
I'll check yours all out - I released a fixed version - it's taken me a while as I'm trying to retrain to get a job again after redundancy, so haven't had so much time to play/add polish.

Here's the latest version that actually hass gameplay / working menu etc!

Can relate with the getting a job again thing... Take care of yourself before playing my excuse for a game, yeah?

With the fixed version, I can definitely see your brand shine through (Keith's Flint & Steel is still very memorable for me)! You seem to have this gift to make your games very easily understandable with seemingly almost no effort at all!

The first two levels were easy to get through, will take some attempts for the last two. I love how you introduce new mechanics in every level, too!

What I somehow didn't mention in my previous comment: The musical score is fantastic. It is chill enough to let you concentrate, and even after repeating several times over, due to its subtle nature, it doesn't lose its charm at all! The artstyle and animation is even better!

Splendid work, man!

It might be a bug or something. I would expect hamsters to move the same direction. It seemed they out of sync.

At first I played the Jam version, thought it was really cool, cute idea but could not finish the first level and was disapointed. Then I played the post LDJ version and oh my god, I love it. I think you could make a great mobile game of it!

Nice little idea but it seemed like the hamsters did not really follow the instructions? I was a bad confused. I loved the art and sounds though!

Nice game! The post compo version looks pretty polished actually. Interesting "programming" game concept. I expected the arrows to keep looping until success or failure, but it only plays once. That means I can direct the hamsters step by step, and the "programming" concept sort of loses its point.

This is really fun ! I love the art and I like the take on theme being hamsters trying to get to the hamster wheel (loop) by going through loops. The duality of the hamsters made for some interesting puzzles. Nice job!
