A 72hour game by Jacob Keane & Joseph Fletcher Ward!

You Reap What You Shoot

With the fauna already gone, the last flora are counting on you to keep them alive by finding Biofuel out in the wastes, spending it to grow your plant and in turn, powering the type of ammo you shoot. In this game, you reap what you shoot!

Keep your plant alive! Don't let the enemies kill it, because if your plant dies, you die!

Should with an Xbox controller, or keyboard and mouse (even in the web build!)

Controls:

Xbox controller recommended (works with web build!)

WASD / Left Stick: Move

Mouse Left Click / Right Stick: Shoot!

Right Click / Right Shoulder Button: Toggle Rope!

Space or E / (A) Button: Buy item / Skip text

Objective:

Get in, find the large BioFuel, get back to your truck, buy upgrades with your BioFuel & repeat! Kill enemies & keep your plant alive while doing so!

Credits:

Really happy with how this game out, had some time to polish bits here and there! Didn't have a huge amount of time to actually balance the gameplay / powerups though, so you might get OP too quickly! :( Unity2020-04-2102-33-06.jpg

I liked the visual of the plant being connected to you like that, providing you with air - helped to emphasize the theme. Also it was interesting how your bullets could be blocked by / bounce off it as you drag it around behind you.

I found the movement / performance a little laggy, so it was tricky to really get into the action side of things.

The fact that when you move a different direction you have to wait for the character to turn and then move feels a little weird. That may have been because I was playing with wasd instead of with a joystick. I love the title jingle that plays when you complete a level.

Movement is a bit weird, I kinda felt like I didn't really have full control of where my character is going. I liked the look of the game a lot, and the way the plant trailed behind the player character. my only major complain though is that the game hard locked me in a corner I couldn't get out of. I assume it's cause the world is randomly generated or something.

I liked the exploration and upgrade mechanics! By the end I was so powerful I could blow away the enemies easily though.

I think it looks good and I like the drag around mechanic. I found it a bit easy to play and didn't feel a lot of threat, but I loved all the power ups and was compelled to keep playing more than a lot of games.

Dude, moving the players hitbox a little bit behind him is such a simple yet brilliant idea. You made a good game and it could be even better if you worked on it further.

PS.
I don't know how this guy did it, but he can have it! :( https://ctrlv.sk/Cv5n

Cheers for the feedback so far!

I hear the issues about the character controller - doesn't quite control how we wanted but ran out of time to fix that one! Much easier to control with an xbox controller, and bear in mind you're dragging around the plant, and that will affect your movement!

Spoilers RE: Movement:
!> You can unrope the plant if you need more accurate movement, but unroping it is pretty abusable :( (We planned that the plant would slowly die when unroped but didn't get around to implementing it...)

Haha yeah @crumblybread - there's some minor issues with the level generation I didn't fix where enemies / minor pickups can spawn in inaccessible areas, but the main BioFuel never will!

Pretty solid graphics, I like the characters! The game is well made and feels nice. I just wish it was a bit more challenging as it quickly becomes a bullet hell for the other guys.

The visual polish on this game is quite amazing for a game made in 72 hours. I was also really impressed by the fact that you took the time to vary the backgrounds, implements a store, and rope physics on the little plant thing.

Fery vun! Love the visual style. And the, uh, voice acting :p Massively unbalanced as many have noted, but still great fun!

Rather cool. Way too easy though. Even without any upgrades, it there was almost no game play challenge. The enemies were pretty toothless and could be taken care off with a few well placed shots. Just going around the labyrinth and collecting the bio full got old pretty quickly as well. Played 6 or 7 stages or so until I quit. Felt like it overstayed it's welcome after a while. Other than that, the game play loop itself worked pretty well. The upgrade store was a good idea and would, in theory, help with player motivation. In this particular case, I didn't make much difference though. The upgrades didn't really seem to change that much. The level generation seemd to work quite well as well. There were some holes in the walls here and there and one time, I was put in a square space with the car blocking the only exit (I could weasly my way through though), but still, pretty impressive. The controls worked nicely and good call on supporting gamepads. The running pyhsics seemed a little off and strange though. I like it better when such games have tight arcade physics intead of more "realisitic" physics like a GTA 4 for exmaple. The 3d assets looked cool as well. Kudos to the amount of details you put in.

All in all, very impressive entry for a one-man-show. Keep it up!

I think the best i've played so far, but it's waaaay too easy. You should consider adding some harder opponents. Other then that, the music was working on my nerves after a while.

Nice game! As many mentioned before, one gets OP too quickly and sometimes Areas are unaccessible. But that's all I can criticize. Gameplay works really well, even with WASD controls and graphics are really good!

Simple little game that I really enjoyed! Using a controller made it a lot more fluid to play. I think if you have time you should try and build downloadable versions of the game, once you get triple shot and rubber bullets a few times the game starts to lag if you get a little too trigger happy. The animations were cute and the concept was really fun!
Good job!

Had a fun time playing, mainly due to what i think is levels that are procedurally generated.

Hey !
Very good game!
I like it!
I propose different points to improve it:
- make more dyanmic the character, the inertia is not so suitable for this type of game :)
- Maybe the shots should be faster because it's very difficult to shoot the targets especially when they are around our plant
- This game could fit with 2 players game :D
Otherwise, the environment is cool, very good idea for the shop between levels!
