Eggy and Chicky - EGGSercise! by qFrct

[raw]
made by qFrct for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Here is my attempt to LD46 - Keep it alive:

WelcomeScreenQFv3_640x512.png

New

Now with Web version (PostJam version). Click to run the game. Full screen available (icon at bottom-right)!

Story

Control Chicky, a little poussin just free from self-isolation, who has to roll his brother Eggy to the incubator. Don't break him!

Advice

Don't go too fast, don't make the egg fall. And as a reward, a little cute scene at the end (and yes you can cheat, but don't ^^).

The level takes around 5-10mn to complete.

Controls

  • Restart: R/Back.
  • Pause: P/Esc/Start.
  • Move: Left Analog Stick / WASD or Arrows.
  • Camera: Right Analog Stick / Mouse.
  • Run: Any button.
  • EGGSit: Delete.

Versions

  • v0.2 Post Jam Version:
    • Added Music: Komiku - Run against the universe.
    • Added Camera.
    • Changed colors.
    • Shortened a big the level.
    • Fixed Collisions issues.
  • v0.1 Jam Version:
    • Collisions issues.
    • No time for audio.

Enjoy : )

Overall I really like this game, one of my favourites here so far!
The models were really cute, I like the handwritten notes, gameplay is simple but engaging and I felt really into it and keeping it safe.
I managed to cross half of the whole upwards going spiral thing, took about 180 seconds though lol.

Keep it up man, this has potential.

@rhinofreak
Thanks a lot for your returns ^^ and you're very fast: 180s is REALLY fast for half the game. It took me personnaly around 800s for the whole game.

Extremely cute game, I would put my life on the line for my egg brother.

Nice graphics!
Why don't insert that player camera can rotate around the chick? :baby_chick:

Unfortunately these types of games are frustrating for me, but the idea is good.

@goetworks: Thanks, but you dont't need to: you can't die in the game : )

@carlofalltrades: Thank you, and for the controls you may be right, and I should shift to a regular TPS camera, you're not the first one to say so.

@julienlussiez: Thanks, I'm quite happy of the result too : )

The controls are so uncomfortable. I'm kind of freaking out with this egg)

Challenging, but cool! I liked the look of the game, and the physics-based gameplay was interesting, but the level was a bit too long in my taste, at least as a first level. Maybe give the player an easier level at first, or maybe some checkpoints? But a cool idea, nice graphics, keep it up!

I like the game and the idea, but you now made me hate how eggs roll ;p

The egg physics were a bit janky, movement would sometimes get stuck and the game was really crying out for some background music, but the art and the premise were pretty charming

@postmeridiangames Thank you ^^

@vertuga32 @jjacobs Thanks, if you want to try a PostJam version, with camera controls and fixed collisions, it's now available : )

@ambadev Thanks, now available in PostJam version with music (and camera controls)!

@arttu-halonen I've made a PostJam version, a bit shorter. But it was supposed to be a one-level-game. Indeed, if I had the time to, I would have put checkpoints/SavePoints, good idea : ).

Our games have the similar idea! =)

I like the visual style and the cute nice details you've put into the game (such as hand-written notes)

As for the gameplay, I'd say that the egg felt too heavy and big, and to hard to control.
Another suggestion, for a game such as this, is to add some checkpoints. Currently, if you loose the egg or fall off there is no motivation to start over. Especially if you're get almost to the end of the level

@mulberg
Thanks for your comments, Mulberg. And you're absolutely right about checkpoints: it was planed since the beginning, but I didn't have time to implement it.
And I played your game and left a comment. Very nice and challenging : )
