Paints of Mind by Onizik

[raw]
made by Onizik for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

This is a story of an artist who cannot finish his picture for a long time. It doesn’t matter how many tries he got; every sketch is thrown into a trash bin. The artist decides to go deep inside to find his inspiration. However, he is carried away by his conscious and is locked inside it. 1er.PNG After multiple failed tries to get out a darkness appeared inside which is going to devour everything. Our hero decided to overcome darkness and wants to understand what helped him to be creative for this time before. 4er.PNG Genre: Quest You need to move between the levels to find three light which opens door out of this place. 3er.PNG However, it needs to do it quick because shadows thicken around, create arms which tries to pull you away. When you find the first light there will be displayed above the character. You will be able to click ‘Space’ to take an action (move to the level, suppress the shadows). We place one "Easter egg" in our game. Can you find it? 2er.PNG

Very nice art first of all! But i didn't really understand the point of the game.
I can tell it took quite some time to create! Great job guys!

The art and music go together really well. Makes you feel like you're in a completely different world.

Great game with very nice-looking art. I in particular love the way the hands move towards the player. Feels very ominous.
One of the main drawbacks, in my opinion, is that when you enter a new "room" you always spawn in the same spot. This makes it difficult to determine where you came from if there are multiple portals in a room. I feel this made navigation unnecessary frustrating.

Amazing artwork and music! The story is also very nice. But the gameplay is very odd. It would be nice to use portal movements as one of the mechanics but as the one and only mechanic it makes the game boring. Its also very easy to get lost and it made me to give up. I think it would be nice to add some simple quests, it would make the game more rich and interesting. It's also really hard to get what you should do because the text its hardly visible. But any its the great work of art!

A really cool looking game, unfortunately the gameplay is a little bit lacking. I find it hard to remember where I have and have not been, especially if I have to think quickly. It would help if the different environemts would be a bit more distictive in of themselves. Like every forrest/swamp could have one element that makes it stand out. I also wasn't sure if I can bring the light back straight away or if I need to find every light before I finish.

Apart from that the music and the graphics are phenomenal for a gamejam, so really well done. Give it a little more polish and this will be great!

The game mood and artisitc style is really good. The animations look smooth and the audio design/music is great as well.
However i have no idea what i'm doing or where i'm going in the game so i got completely lost and ended up just randomly jumping through portals in the hope of making progress. Maybe that's the idea though.
