Max Party - Party Planner To The Stars by TheOtherSamP

[raw]
made by TheOtherSamP for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Keep the planet (and most importantly, the PARTY) alive in the face of the incoming asteroid storm. They're purple for a good reason, I promise.

The music is quite good. Everything else is... Who needs materials on their objects anyway?

This was a time management failure, but it was fun. Bits look okay considering that we have no ability to do art. Especially the bits we stole (with permission).

The music was done by my brother, and it's pretty good considering that it's the first proper piece he's ever done! Can you tell what famous piece it's based on? I'll give you a clue: It's a bad joke.

I made poor decisions at the start which hampered progress. I thought that the proper way to approach a jam game was to write the fastest, hackiest, least planned and structured code possible. By the time I got to the end, that came back to bite me, and things like menus just weren't going to happen because state and loading weren't setup cleanly. I also wasted many hours on trying to make things look good despite having absolutely no aesthetic sense. I let perfection be the enemy of the good, so lots of needed features like nice planet destruction, feedback on damage level, syncing asteroids with the music, and ramping up difficulty just didn't get done.

We tried adding sound effects, but everything that we tried clashed with the music, so we chose to let the music do its thing.

This one is actually one of the best games I've seen so far. It is very fun and relaxing. Also cool synth+piano music. :) You should leave some ratings on other games to get more exposure! Anyways, great job with your game!

Funniest game over screen I have seen so far lol. Some sounds effects would have been nice, otherwise this was a very well rounded game, I liked that the asteroids sticked to the earth.

Very fun, very relaxing, really cool music! Just missed some feedback and information on the HUD, but the developers are aware of that I think so all good. It got old with time, I didn't feel like the game was getting harder (but I ended up losing so...)

Music was awesome! The game play got a little dry as it didn't seam the asteroids would start spawning faster. The story at the end made me want to be your friend IRL tho. Nice Job!

Very Cool Idea. Probably should leave more reviews to get more exposure. Music was superb and really like the simple game play. It was fast paced just slow and relaxing for you to enjoy saving the earth. And if your talking bout seeing code, my code was an abomination. Good Job!

Was it intentional that by holding down the mouse button, you would fire in time with the music? Pretty funny. The game is fun, as simple as it is

Good idea, Like the possible story behind it too. Could do with some sound effects and maybe a ramping up in intensity. Also my mouse would occasionally twitch to the edge of the screen that could just be me . Banging choons keep it up.

It's very simple, maybe a bit too simple in my opinion, I would've loved some power ups (maybe in the form of satellites you need to shoot?) or something to add more variation. I do like the music though! (my game has no sound at all, my time management isn't great either...) and I thought the end text was really funny :)

Reminded me of Cyberia games shooting sequences, good old times :) You can make a nice rhythm game with this idea. The music is awesome :) Would be great to add some sound for the firing and asteroid explosion animations :)

@defectivemelon, yes that was intentional, I'm glad you noticed! Originally it synced the laser colour with the party lights, too. Actually I'm not sure why it didn't do that in the final build, I think I must have forgotten to re-enable it, hah. Everything in the code is actually synced with the beat of the music, but we didn't end up getting the more complex asteroid patterns in so it's not very noticeable. They do spawn on exactly every second beat, though.

Starts the game

Starts shooting the Earth

Asteroids are coming from behind

Starts shooting them for a while

All that time until to realize you have to die in order to get to the real content

ok..

It's a nice entry, certainly worth the time to play! You got a fun idea and managed to turn it into something playable, and that is already a good thing. Also, when the music stops, you can't shoot anymore, and the asteroids start roaming freely, and the earth is destroyed. I don't think that was intentional, but it makes sense - if you hold left mouse button down, the shooting becomes synced with the beats, so that means you are fueled by the party, and when the party is over, you are no more too.. I'm probably overthinking it.

Missile Command 2000!
Nice graphics, the mouse control is a bit "loose".

That was a fun little game  I wish there was some kind of score at the end, but that's alright. And your brother did a really good job on the soundtrack!
