JAFLL (Just A Frozen Lost Lumberjack) by PaoloGinefra

[raw]
made by PaoloGinefra for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

I'm a 16 years old Italian student and this is my first "finished" game. I had a lot of fun developing this game and I know it's far from perfect. I'd really appreciate if you could write a comment saying what I should improve. Thanks in advance.

In JAFLL you play as a lumberjack lost in a procedurally generated forest who has heard an helicopter near by so he light a fire to be spotted more easily and not to freeze to death. You have to collect wood in order to KEEP THE FIRE ALIVE. ScreenShot1.PNG ScreenShot2.PNG

I'm not a huge fan of these type of games but I felt it was quite engaging even though its mechanic simplicity.
Also, the art style it's really captivating, it was the thing that made me play it.

I love this game! It need a bit more balancing (a bit more time to explore before his life fades away). But overall a really cool and nice platfromer. Well done!

@grossepelle I'm sorry you found it hard, I hadn't too much time for balancing. Can you tell me what you struggled the most with? Thanks in advance

Oh, the web version of your game seems to work perfectly! You should put a "HTML5 (web)" link to your description (with the same link), otherwise some might miss out on trying it!

Beautiful graphic, nice idea. I have a suggestion that you can upgrade your cart so that it can bring more woods.

I like the mood and the concept a lot. Graphics are cool!
I didn't manage to finish it - my sled gets stuck underground each time I play for longer :(
It gets a little bit repetitive after few minutes.

Nice mood and idea. Great game but it is getting repetitive after 2nd tree. Also navigating player is too hard. I think you are using wrong method to translate player transform. At slopes I always get stuck.

@paologinefra To modify: in the bottom right corner of the game section (this page, just above the comments) there is a pencil icon. Click that to edit - you should get the same editor that you used to submit your game.

The art and concept are good, but I think execution could be better. Mostly if the hypothermia timer could just be a little bit longer it would be better. Right now it goes down too fast, especially if the first tree is far away. Also sometimes, the tutorial would appear too far up and I couldn't read the top part.

Very nice! I liked the idea of keeping the fire alive.
I found it quite hard though as the hypothermia bar filled up quite fast. I did also have an issue with jumping, it seem that your jumping code only works when the play is on the ground, this made it an issue when I ended up getting stuck on logs or the slay.
Apart from those I really enjoyed you game! Great work!

Cool graphics and mood but the game did keep breaking for me. The cart kept falling of the screen which hindered the game a lot. Lovely visuals though :)
