Dryad by xfinktion

[raw]
made by xfinktion for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

A top down shoot where you play as a dryad defending here tree

EDIT 4/20 8:15pm - It appears that in my excitement to have finished my first game jam in the nick of time, it appears I have mistakenly submitted as a Jam game. I have updated it for compo.

Also updated the Links section to indicate that I put up an HTML build on game jolt to make it more accessible to anyone that would like to check it out.

Cool idea. I wasn't sure what the deal was with the shooting though - it felt like it was way too slow. Also didn't know how to get additional turrets

Cool game, I was a bit surprised after I beat an enemy and it jumped straight into a new wave. Would love to see a "Wave cleared" text or something. Well done!

Nice job on your first game! I liked how you could pick different shots. At first I thought they were different kind of turrets, but then realized one shot was faster than the other. I'd like the see the enemies a bit more, since they are attacking me before I see them. The narrative between the levels is pretty funny. Keep up the good work!

I really liked the music. The different shots made it more interesting. The camera follow felt a bit slow to me, but overall a great compo. Congrats!

Nice! Definitely agree with stolen_biscuit, I didn't really know what was going on. I kinda just shot, and then magically beat the wave, even though the heat seeking enemies were following me. The movement felt nice though, and the controls were responsive. I liked the "pew pew" sound effects too. :)

Yes! Finally! A 5 star on humor. Absolutely had me giggling. I love a LD game with a win state also! The little whoosh noises were great. I wanted more to play! Is there any way to dodge the missiles? I wish there was something to deflect them into. Great submission!

Nice tower defence game! Here's some random suggestions that might help.
1) The grass texture, the way I make it seemless is by offsetting by half in the x and y. Then blurring the middle then badda bing badda boom. Seamless (kinda)
2) Perhaps some drawings for the text pop ups? The artstyle could work quite well for a childrens book aesthetic, perhaps an overly plump devious mayor or something?
Hope these help!

Solid game! I like the idea of combining tower defense with a top down shooter, it's pretty cool. The game was really easy, but all the enemies were pretty unique, so that was nice. Also, I thought that the camera was a little too zoomed in, but that's just me. Overall, nice job!

I found it humorous and I'm ashamed I didn't do a better job preventing my tree from becoming toilet paper...

Having some feedback (e.g. particles) that appear when things get hit might make the game feel more fun!

Best as I could tell there were only three rounds, was really hoping to play more when the game was over. A pity as the build up was quite interesting over those three levels and I would have liked to have seen more of it.
