Keep It Alive by SimonRhys

[raw]
made by SimonRhys for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Keep your little plant alive by avoiding the falling asteroids! When they hit the ground you can climb them to reach the portal to the next level.

How many portals can you get through?

Really funny, different from any other game. I love you level design. and I love the sound when I die.

Quite trilling at the begining duo to interesting mechanic of falling asteroids becoming solid blocks we can use to jump on. BUT. Distribution of the asteroids is, I assume, pure random. Thus on higher level game is boring due to wait time until certain amount of blocks get high enough to reach to portal.

Cheers mate!

I don't understand how conrol the character. It's uncomfortable to move the character. When I loaded the 1st, it has lagged. Bit I like the laughter of devil after my lose and that's this game had written by Python.

Pretty cool game! I liked the asteroids solidifying instead of just disappearing. Good job!

@inka-mcatee @pomelouncia @zguba @coolestdoggie @adam-clayden Thanks for the feedback guys :D

You're right @zguba, it is pure random, mainly due to time constraints (we gave yourselves 48 hours instead of the full 72). I thought about making the placement follow the character's location, but I thought that would mostly leave the rest of the game space blank.

@coolestdoggie You can move the character left, right, and jump using the arrow keys or WAD. When you jump next to a block or tower of blocks, you climb the tower. Would you mind elaborating on the uncomfortable movement?

A few people mentioned the death laughter, just a note to say that we didn't actually make this which is why we asked not to be judged on audio. I've added a link to the description for the source of that effect and others that we used.

The games not bad but it's pretty hard to stream playing it on Twitch since it fully closes every time you die. You might want to make a credits screen or just restart the game next time :) I liked the idea that the platforming is randomized!

The evil laugh when you die is pretty great :laughing:

Made it to level 10. I wish there was some way the character could influence the path to the portal, because on the easier levels a lot of time is spent waiting for blocks to fall without doing much. I enjoyed playing!

Simple idea, but enjoyed the gameplay. Great sound effect when you loose.
