The Ill Divinity by Solah

[raw]
made by Solah for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

The divinity of your lands is ill. As the shaman of your village, it is your duty to heal him! Go inside its body and use your power to heal him, but be careful about the macrobias and the lymphocytes that can kill you!

Capture1.PNG

The Ill Divinity is a platformer game where you have to finish each screen before the divinity dies. If you stay idle, you can use a healing aura that will heal it and make you earn some time. It also neutralized macrobias for a few seconds. But be careful, it boosts lymphocytes!

If you have some issues finishing the game, I give some clues about the last room in the comments ;)

Capture2.PNG

This is my third participation in compo and, even though this game is a bit unfinished, I am pretty proud of it. Hope you will like it!

I used: - Unity - Gimp - Bandlab - Audacity

20/04: - Corrected a wrong respawn position - Made the tutorial shown adapted to the chosen keyboad configuration - Put a limit on the vertical acceleration to prevent collision detection fails

NB: When I uploaded the new version on itch.io, it deleted the old one, the uploaded source code remains unchanged though and contains the game at its state at the end of the Compo.

Nice pixel art ! The sound design is also great, too bad there is no music during the game because the one for the title screen is really cool ! The theme really fits well and the game is enough challenging to keep an interest ! I would prefer to jump with the up arrow to have each hand dedicated to a set move.

Great game. It got me into the mood and I liked the logic of boosting the defenders when having the heal aura. It is really a nice platformer. One thing that could be improved is the guidance of where to go - it would be nice to have an idea of what awaits in the next room.

Keep up the good work :)!

Really cool art and a really good concept! This is quite a unique puzzle platformer! Some of the levels were quite challenging, which made it satisfying when you finished it! Overall, this is a great Compo entry!

Hey cool idea and nice art. I got stuck on one level that didn't appear to have an exit, with 3 orbs, 2 macrobias on the right, and 2 yellow ones past the wall to the right. But that might be the one you didn't finish.

Nice Pixel art and Progressive difficulty like the stay in a place to heal ability gives a nice twist to a platformer

Great game! Controls are really responsive.
How do you exit the level with no yellow macrobias?

Congras!

Fun puzzle game. I don't fully know what the blue bar did because it never got close to running out

@bulle Thanks for the feedback, I will see what I can do about that in a post LD version and my future games ^^

@black-flag Thank you very much! :)

@Maytch, @hhsaez Yeah, this is the boss room. It was supposed to feature the heart of the divinity to the right, but I did not have the time for that, also the three yellow orbs/macrobias does not make it clear. But you can actually defeat this room and get a small cinematic if you can touch the three yellow orbs without dying! :) In a post LD version, I would like to make them look like infected locks so the player knows he or she has to touch them. Thank you for the feedback :)

@snarkusius, @Anonymous Thank you :D. it took me some time to do some level design and it is really rewarding to see you enjoyed it!

@goldenevolution Thank you! :) The blue bar is the life of the divinity, when it goes under 25%, you can hear a heartbeat and when it reaches 0, you die and restart the screen. I did not have the time to make more levels where it would have more impact as a chrono.

The pixel art is great, and the main mechanic is very cool! I love how it has both a positive and negative effect and so you don't always just go "find land activate circle". The controls are great but the hitboxes might be a bit big (Or I'm just bad at the game :stuck_out_tongue:).

Great game. The art is awesome and the gameplay was fun. Too bad i'm awful at platforming =)
Awesome job!

The art in this game is beautiful and while a short game it has some really nice mechanics and is very well polished. I would encourage you to continue developing this as it has good potential!

I like the smiles of the viruses

The mechanic is cool, I perhaps just miss something to tell me I am doing right when staying still

@velvetlobster Yeah, I had so much fun drawing the viruses ^^. Maybe I should add some animations/sounds/particle effects when we have the aura to indicate the effects on the divinity's life, the macrobias and the lympphocytes. Thank you for your feedback!

I love the graphics, a simple platformer with a little something in the gameplay that makes it really good.
Good job :)

The mechanic of staying still affecting enemies was innovative. I gave up after dying about 20 times in the room that has three suns on the right side of the screen, but had fun!

@bemmu This is the boss room, it sure is a bit too hard, but I've made it like 30 minutes before the end of the jam ^^"

Hi, I like the unique mechanic of disabling and getting life at the same time.
Sound effects are cool, game itself reminded me of the Super Meat boy.

Well done. Is there a way to past the level with 2 yellow stars on the right?

Amazing game, one of my favorite ! I really liked the graphism, the gameplay and the level design. It's nice that you took time to create an intro and outro which improve the overall mood of the game. The only drawback was that I had to look in the comment to figure out how to finish the game, but once I figured out I liked the difficulty of this level. It took me 64 death, but I made my way trough the end  ! And I don't know if it was supposed to be interpreted like this, but at the end you realize that the divinity is a cat (since when it opens it eyes it really looked like a cat ...)

Anyway great job !

@dick-claus Yes, this is the last room of the game. You're to touch the three yellow macrobias with your aura without dying, then you unlock the end cinematics :) I've made this room 30 minutes before the end of the compo so I did not have the time to make sprites and music that better indicate this is the boss room and how to defeat it! Thank you :D

@polegar Thank you very very much! I hope to do a better version of this game without this drawback. Thank you for your perseverance! If you watch closely the intro, the divinity has a beak. I tried to draw an owl to be honest, but it's even cooler if it has elements of multiple animals so every player can associate it to different animals ^^

A great idea to implement platformer mechanics with the ability to have an impact on your surroundings! I love how fast the game restarts in order to try again without many interruptions! Well done and I wish you good luck!

Nice to see some intro before the actual gameplay!
Got some issues with one of the white cells on the last level, but overall it was fun to play.

Un bon petit jeu sympathique, les contrôles répondent bien, les graphismes sont bien réalisés. Une petite musique pendant l'aventure aurait été top !

25 deaths, pretty fun to play, not bored, enjoyed the time. Platformer movement seems to me well done, maybe i will check your project and take a look. Nice simple art, everything important is well communicated with the player. Pretty intuitive to get into. Nice.

I love your simple main character pixeart.

Wonderful concept for a platformer and I had a good time playing it. I noticed that the spheres behavior was a bit unpredictable when my aura activated/their speed up wore off. Not sure if that was intention or not

Solid game, the controls were smooth and the puzzles were just the right level of challenging. Pretty unique mechanic! I like the counter at the end, give me incentive to play through again to try to improve. My run time: 179s and 24 deaths.

Very cool little platformer! Felt very smooth and fun to jump around. One suggestion is perhaps adding some "Coyote Time" to make the jumps feel a little more responsive. Sometimes it felt like I was jumping at the right time but it was just a moment too late, and in a game like this that usually means restarting the level.

Here's a great thread from the Celeste dev on Coyote time and other tricks they used:

Hi, I really enjoyed the game, the mechanics are awesome, you should build up on that and keep developing the game post-LD!
