Scrappalooza TV [LD46] by Coord

[raw]
made by Coord for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Made by 3 students, it's our first attempt at a games jam and we have learned an absolute ton, even if the end product isn't as polished as we might have hoped we have all enjoyed the process and are excited to go again on LD47!

Our game is Scrappalooza TV, inspired by the old micro machine games!

We are aware of a bug that seems to make the window miss-size for some users when in the web client, apparently zooming in/out on the webpage can help to fix this and should correct errors in the tutorial and credits pages! (We have no idea why this happening though, sorry!)

Cool little entry, I liked it! It was hard to control the car but after I got better at it it became very satisfying to move in tight turns. Good job you guys! Looking forward to seeing what you make next time

Check out my game if you've got some time :D

Definitely a challenge! My biggest advice for your next jam is to cut back on menus. Short and sweet, and jump right into the gameplay. Thanks for sharing your work!

Reminds me of the flash games I used to play as a kid, in the good way. I hope you guys decide to continue developing this game for future release! It just needs a bit of polish and elbow grease. Good job fellas!

Seemed like a cool idea! I think probably the biggest critique I would have are the controls and the fact that you basically stop if you go off the road. I think slowing is a good idea because it forces you to employ some skill, maybe just too intense as it is and it became frustrating.
If you're able, I'd love it if you checked out my game and left a comment :D

I enjoy the simple graphics, however when I went to look at the credits I couldn't return to the main screen 'cuz the return button was broken.

Also I had a hard time driving because I couldn't figure out where was the head or the tail of the car. Also the direction of the car controls kept changing, like I had to press D or A at one point to go up, which was weird. I enjoyed the comments at the bottom tho and they made me smile, but I do wish they were slower so I could read them, even tho I was mostly focused on the game while playing and couldn't read them.

Good idea to place them in the credits tho and during the game over: they seemed well placed then and I had enough time to read them without freaking out because I was running out of time.

Honestly this is a nice game, even if the driving was challenging. Good job! Keep up the nice work!!!

Definitely need to tune up the turn speed a touch and maybe turn down the forward and backward speeds. Once I realized I needed to drop off the pickups using the e key it made the game much more interesting.

Driving mechanics are hard to tune! I wish you could have devoted more time to make it feel better. The detailed city map was nice.

Besides what's already been said here, I enjoyed the news headlines a lot. However the driving is Definitley hard to control, and I found myself running into walls I thought were streets then avoid streets I thought were walls. If you had more time to polish a little tightening would go a long way.

The car is difficult to control. The sprites are nice, but unfortunately create a confusing perspective. The 'forward' direction of the car is not immediately obvious.
The ticker messages are very cool :).
