La boucle du Dongeon by CryVeck

[raw]
made by CryVeck for Ludum Dare 47 (COMPO)

La boucle du Dongeon - LD 47 - CryVeck - screenshot.png I made a jam with friends a long time ago, and now, I've done the compo because I am alone, and tomorrow I need to go to school :/ I am happy to made a playable game !

When you get stuck into a dungeon and you are trying to escape with your magical stone...

A simple game made in Java with build in JDK libraries (as java, javax, ...) without any external libraries. I am some disappointed due to the little number of level. They are too easy. I spend too much time on functionalities. (Beautiful mouth noises to get souds effects :) )

Hope you get some fun and idea !

If you like it and want more level let me know, I may post some updates in the future.

Java is require on your computer in order to run the game ! (only tested on Windows)

Nice work! I loved the gimmick of unlocking movements in each level. It wasn't particularly difficult but the levels were fun to figure out, and the length is ideal for a LD game. The graphics and sound effects were adequate, but the music was too short. The theme eventually makes itself apparent, although it doesn't really manifest in the gameplay. Overall, interesting mechanic and decent level design.

Bravo.

Interesting puzzles! I agree with the music being too repetitive, but the rest of the art is good.

it looks interesting, but I can't figure out what I'm meant to do to make any progress :( I'm stuck after you first go right and open the chest, I don't know how to use the green arrow you get

Can you explain how to do the first level? Like the other person above me says, I don't understand how to progress.

@indivicivet @sh80 sorry for the late answer, actually the green arrrow allows you to go to the right, you just need to push your right arrow on your keyboard. In a first sight I want to do modify the action bar, but I think it will make the gameplay too long and boring.

Cool game, that's really good for just Java. Pixel art looks good. It took way too long to figure out you can lift things at a distance but once I got that the puzzles were very nice. The music fit the mood, I liked it but the loop was a little short. The ending was funny and on theme. All this game needs is a better tutorial. Congrats!

Really cool! It's like one of those "start with nothing" metroidvania's but it resets on every room. Great mechanics and great puzzles to go with them. Maybe they are a little easy as you say, but they still had me engaged so I think they were a success. Visuals were very good, cute pixel art with enough detail to be interesting. Sound loop got a little repetitive but that's my only nitpick.

Nice game. Couldn't figure out that the items in the chest were movement and not things to add to the bar without reading it and couldn't pass the third stage (the character just doesn't jump high enough, and sometime just touching the large wooden box kills him for no reason), but really cool concept.

(also... dongeon ? Is that a play on words that I'm not getting or isn't it supposed to be "donjon" ?)

Thanks all for your comments !

@masaru Yes I changed my mind during the event, firstly the items were unlock in order to add action via the action bar :/ and I change that. The boxes kill the player when they are in movement but sometimes they have a small momentum so on the screen they don't move but for the physics engine they are moving, I need to fix that. In the third stage you need to put the large wooden box on the spike so you can jump on it and after jump to the chest :).

Oh ! I wanted to write "donjon" but I did it too fast ^^ (often in my code I write "boutton" that is between "button" in English and "bouton" in French).

Cool game! I didn't understand anything that was going on at first until I read the comments but once I figured it out, I really feel like this is an innovative and cool puzzle game. Good job!
