Photon Loop by Alexascher

[raw]
made by Alexascher for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Jump into the strange world of subatomic particles.

Expand your photon loop by dragging connections to new nodes.

Reach the node of your destiny, but be careful to maintain your system's energy levels, or risk fading out of existence.

Tips: Untitled-8.png - White node - no special effects. - Red node - adds energy (speed) to photons passing though it. - Yellow node - a beacon that will illuminate its surroundings the farther, the more photons are running though it - Orange node - an even more powerful beacon, but it requires constant power, otherwise it shrinks - Emerald node - a splitter. One photon comes in, two photons with half the energy of the original come out. You can establish two connections from this node - Magenta node - eats photons to charge up, and once charged, shoots out a high velocity photon - Purple node - a black hole, eats a photon after which allows other photons to pass through, until cooldown reset.

Very beautiful and polished game. Would love to have levels to slowly learn and get used to the different start types.

I like the variety of mechanics. The simple but complex in a relaxing way.

Entrancing! I spent a good 20 minutes before my "light faded". Nice visuals and music.

Nice job! I got lost in this game for a long while before realizing that I'd spent too much time and really should get back to my life. The music fits the game perfectly! Quite mesmerizing. The game mechanics are simple yet really fun! I could play this for hours, if I had the time. Love it! I hope to see you turn this into a more complex, full game some day!

Incredible! Played it for way longer than I intended to... eventually got stuck at a point where I could no longer expand my loop, but that's probably not fault of the game. In fact, I can't really fault this game on anything.

Got lost in this for a long while. Great mood and intriguing game mechanics, which I have yet to understand fully. Would have been nice to start with a smaller level and ramp up.

Wow, that was great! I couldn't reach the right end of the universe despite my best efforts. I probably missed a node somewhere...
Absolutely loved the mechanics of the game. It was intuitive to learn, and grabbed my curiosity.
Athmosphere was very cool and the music reminded me of blade runner. 5 stars!

Really nice ambience in the art and music and in the mechanics and puzzle. I liked discovering how the different nodes worked. The controls for connections on the green nodes were a bit confusing and i thought the split connections were permanent (or maybe it's possible to be stuck and not able to disconnect it?). Good use of the theme.

Really clever mechanic, although some kind of in game tutorial would be really nice, "is this really the end"? :P

I really enjoyed this game! The experience was super chill and calming, and the mechanics were interesting. There was actually a lot of complexity, with lots of different kinds of nodes to play with, and intersting choices to make. I played for quite a long while before my last photon sadly faded away. The splitting node especially makes it fun to play, because you really have to decide on whether you want one strong photon or several weaker ones. I think you could add a few more beacons, because at times it was hard to explore new areas, but that's all I can say. Very fun and chill. Thanks for making this, good job!
