Keep the Party Alive! (Solo project) by Alexander Crane

[raw]
made by Alexander Crane for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Keep the Party Alive! is a game focused on building as much HYPE as you can. Made as a solo project for Ludum Dare 46. Play as the host of a party as you frantically try and make sure everyone is having a good time! Asset credits found at itch.io link.

Note: The vertical camera is inverted when playing with a mouse, but is not when playing with a controller. This is unintentional, but hopefully not too distracting.

Bugs I'm working on fixing

-Camera rotation

Bugs I fixed

-UI Scaling

-Mouse is invisible in menu after first playthrough

Very cute and a nice, tight gameplay loop. Love being bananaman! I know you're tired of hearing about the camera, but I think the problem of it being inverted isn't so bad. The sensitivity is the thing that makes it really tough to deal with.

Vertical mouse inversion fas awful desigion

@nick0124-creator Vertical camera is less a design choice and more an issue from working with quaternions. I tried to fix it but ran out of time, though if you use a controller it's not inverted. It wasn't intentional, but I don't think "awful decision" (or "awful design"?) is fair since many players prefer inverted (myself included).

@tatetate The sensitivity has been fixed since you played it last (I hope)- I added detection for controller input vs mouse input right before the deadline :)

I really liked the game! I especially love the character models - something about those extremely long arms is just so funny to me!

Loved the game. The atmosphere of this game really put me in the party mood. I felt like I was frantically trying to get everyone to enjoy the party. When the nanner suit went on everything changed lol. I laughed so hard when I jumped on the table and pumped up the party a notch. Very good game.

Great game!!!
Honestly, the invered controllers bothered me A LOT... I saw you saying you didn't really chose this, still bothered me so muuuch ahhahaha
Still, didn't take the fun off the game!!! I just tested another game with similar concept and saw our commetns, so I came here to test yours too! And it is very nice!!!!
HOnestly, I loved that when I stop moving my character starts to dance LOL

@alexander-crane Loved it! Great music, and those animations are absolutely hilarious! I may have found a bug where one lady wouldn't take the pizza I brought her that she seemed to be asking for, but it wasn't hard to find someone else who was interested ;) Would definitely play more if you continued to work on it!

It was quite fun actually! The character models really fit the game, and the animations are nice. I felt like there was too little to do, but maybe I missed something? I grabbed the banana suit, and then I was a delivery boy of both beer and pizza for all my guests, but I never found anything else to interact with. I lost quite quickly, even though I tried to be fast with my deliveries... Anyway, there are several technical issues to fix (camera as mentioned before, friction on the walls can easily cause wall climbing, camera clipping through walls and such) but the game itself was absolutely enjoyable! Well done!

@jonhthehutt Thank you! I wish I could take credit for the models, but I think so too.

@tuesi Thank you, I'm glad you found the banana!

@dry-squid I'm glad you liked the atmosphere, that's what I was focusing the most on. The frantic feeling of being a party host.

@starlet Yeah, sorry about that! And thank you!

@ctrble Is it a lady you can see in one of the pictures? Some of their hitboxes may be off so I might be able to fix that.

@rey Thank you, I'm glad you liked the mood!

@sarasm I'm glad you found the costume :D

@thedouche I'm sorry you felt that way, what felt janky about it? Any constructive comments?

@filip-bergkvist Thank you! There were a few more things to do to liven up the party - you could bounce on the couch, and dance on the table with the other person. Doing these three things makes beating it easier if you are quick about it. My original intent was to make this have an active ragdoll and janky physics like Gang Beasts/Human Fall Flat, but that proved to be very challenging with the timeframe. And the technical issues you mentioned definitely need fixing, they just went on the backburner in favor of finishing the core mechanics.

@alexander-crane, no, she's standing near the kitchen. Not the closest one, but the lady talking to her.

I really like the graphics and the music also goes very well. The slight murmuring also makes this game feels quite alive despite the guests not actually walking around lol. I found myself incredibly struggling with just trying to keep the hype up that I didn't really feel free to try and explore i was just a constantly running to and from the kitchen but i was wanting to explore. But yeah, also the camera was very difficult to handle i kept overshooting just about everything lol. having a settings menu to adjust that would be phenomenal. Good game!

Cool look and music, the game is fun, one thing to notice, is that all walls have the same plain color, I got lost a lot trying to go to the kitchen because of the lack of contrast between walls u.u The camera has some troubles too, but is something obvious taking into account this is a game jam.

Really cool game, had fun playing it :D Great job keep it up!

Nice entry! The music was cool and the character models were pretty cute and funny. I tried many times to escape my prison and flee into the black abyss away from that endless party however I could not find anywhere to clip through the walls :(

Hi it's a good idea, however i really miss a tutorial in how to get the party alive :/ I see the icons but i doon't know how to help the them, and pressing E just make me dancing.
But I like the aestetic, good job!!

@laura-del-pino Hi Laura, you can help the people by going to the microwave or fridge in the kitchen and grabbing them a beer or pizza :)

@aguahervida I definitely agree, it's hard to tell the boundaries between walls like this. If I were to do a full release I would address that for sure. And thank you!
