Bob is very disappointed in me. But I'm very impressed with you! Even with a tutorial the game would've been pretty dang fun. That tutorial just added so much character and when you're doing a simpler concept keeping your audience laughing helps a ton. Graphically not the fanciest, but it fits the overall theme well. Same goes for the music. Very well done!

@alkarym Thank you!

@guilherme-rampelotto-rodrigues Poor old Me. He was doomed to orbit forever from the very start!

@bradyg Thank you very much for the kind words. I really tried on the art but I am not an artist and I was learning as I went. I'm glad you liked it!

@dxk2294 The fact that you said it felt "juicy" makes me very happy! That's definitely one of my big weak points as a hobby game dev!

Like the Aliens reference and the Ned Flanders vibe. I may have shot the moon deliberately before the prompt came up to defend said moon but it was all in good fun. Loved the dialog and and mechanics. Awesome work.

Really good game! I loved the humor, the music is cool, the art could be improved. But the game feel is great, I loved shooting down those aliens, and destroy the moon haha. "don't worry, there is no wind in space" XD

A lot of fun to play and very polished. And it's funny to boot. Bob is priceless.

I encountered this amusing little bug where halfway through the tutorial all the letters started printing out twice, so everyone sounded like they were talking rreeaallllyy sslloowwllyy.

“Bob is very disapointed” That alians destroyed the earth LoL XD it was me all along stupid Bob XD nice game and I got stuck in a dialogue loop in the tutorial I don't know if that was intentional lol

Good entry! Runs smoothly and I like the the little banter between the the two people that acts as a tutorial. good job! The game play itself is pretty straight forward and basic / easy to understand. It can get very cluttered after playing for a minute though and I usually died because I blew up the earth and the moon by myself. The earth seems to be a very fragile planet :) The art style is a bit all over the place (from scaled pixel art to non-scaled pixel art?) but get's the work done. Music is rather chill! Fits the mood, I think. The SFX was a tad generic for my taste. A little more work in the sound design department could elevate the experience, I think. The theme was properly included (and even dropped by name), but will not win any innovation prices paired with the gameplay, to be honest. Still, a worth while experience!

Fun game! It's nicely polished for the time limit.

I really appreciate the dialog system! I don't know if you had some of it implemented in advance, but it has all of those nice-to-have features that make it feel that much more finished, like timed text and gibberish narration. The mechanics were enjoyable, if slightly clunky when one ship is barraging the planet, forcing you to keep your shield pointed to it, while giving you little time to peek and shoot it it. I'd also suggest a "toggle orbital direction" button rather than "left and right orbit buttons", as the directions could get confusing depending on your current location in orbit. Still, it has solid gameplay that's quite fleshed out for a jam :) I'm not sure if I finished or softlocked the game though: once I reached level 15 enemies stopped appearing :shrug:

Good job, and thank you for making this!
🎤 Human Writes Code
08. Oct 2020 · 10:24 UTC
@eden-shazar Thanks for playing. Yeah, the fact that enemies stopped spawning for you at level 15 is a bug. They should spawn indefinitely. I like the idea of just toggling orbital direction. Originally, I wanted to implement more "upgrades" than just the shield and also more weapon options than just the missile but never got to it. That would have, hopefully, helped with the problems caused by clunky mechanics (they are meant to be a bit clunky but not frustratingly so). As for the dialog system, I put that together in the final couple of hours of the jam. The code is barely hanging together for that :laughing: I'm glad I got it in there though because it makes the whole thing a lot better.

Hey, sorry to be the one to report the glitch, but I ran the game (in 1920x1080) and can't click anything in the menu, so I can't start nor quit it.

Good job, fun entry! Really keeps you on your toes trying to track your own ship and the alien ships. Also a clever way to tie in a bit of realism (orbiting things) in a genre that usually disregards gravity as a way to fit the theme.

@natethegreat Thanks for playing and giving feedback! I'm glad you liked it.

@criggles Thanks! The rockets use a simple but relatively subtle algorithm to accelerate towards their target. It's an idea I picked up from the "Juice it or lose it" video (linked below). It's not the same algorithm they use for motion/momentum but it's the same idea. Also, that video is well worth watching.

@king-cacti Thanks!

One of my favorites so far. I actually laugh with the dialogues (I love the idea of Bob, kind of a construction worker, being in charge of Earth defense). It fits the theme and the gameplay is smooth. Maybe it gets too difficult too soon (I survive until level 15 and blow up the Moon)

A fun and challenging game that feels fair! The tutorial added a lot of personality to game and managed to both teach how to play and tell the story at the same time (Thank you for the option to speed up / skip text!).

As mentioned the gameplay felt challenging, but was really enjoyable! The graphics were great and the controls were responsive and felt intuitive to use.

Difficulty spiked up a little too fast after wave 10, but I feel like that's probably just me being bad at the game :p Overall a great entry, well done!
kr4ft3r
09. Oct 2020 · 12:42 UTC
Nah, I ran it in native win10 so idk what happened there. Web build worked great of course.

Good job, a decent shooter with increasing wave heat density. I wish laser would work on slow projectiles though.

Definitely some good humor, especially the broken windshield part. Since Bob looks like a construction worker, I imagine he just climbed into my office through the window and started talking about aliens.

A bit weird that it says "the aliens destroyed the earth" when I destroy the earth, but it can be taken with humor ("Umh, yes, the aliens did it, damn those aliens...").

On third try I somehow reached level 23 too fast, was a bit disappointed that there were no more waves. But, the ending stays true to the theme (was that the end or a glitch, I'm not sure).

@kr4ft3r Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, that was a bug you experienced at the end. Some one else reported a similar thing but it happened at an earlier level. Not sure what's causing that! Still level 23 is impressive... I think everyone is better at this game than I was in play testing!

The core gameplay loop is satisfying, and it is just the right level of frustrating to have to wait to be in a proper position to blast the aliens. The funky tunes and crunchy sound effects help a lot too.

Initially a bit too much text stopping you from playing.

Hey, this was pretty fun! I liked the extra complexity of having to avoid shooting your own moon/earth, too. Nice Missile Command feel to it. I think my only complaint is that there's not enough audible feedback when you hit your own moon/earth with one of your missiles, so half the time I didn't even notice I was hitting myself when I was shooting volleys at the enemies!

Anyway, it had fun good writing, nice simple and effective graphics... and that bass was slappin'!
