The cannons fly pretty slowly, and don't give a big enough trail or splash to see where they're hitting.  The ship speed compared to the cannon reload time is... not right. The combat between ships is cool, but seems that the cannonballs are too little, so its impact is hard to measure, or not felt at all. The art and sounds are good overall, but a little bland to be great. In the game, hitting stuff seems very unforgiving, and I found no use for the gold I acquired, which felt a little odd. Moving the ship was tedious but overall you could argue that adds to the mechanic and of course a ship doesn't just turn on a dime anyway. I didn't play fullscreen at first and couldn't figure out why it wasn't firing, but it's because the mouse isn't captured so i was clicking outside the bounds of the game window.
