Akhlut by David Kutak

[raw]
made by David Kutak for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

According to the Inuit folklore, the kak-whan-u-ghat kig-u-lu'-nik or akh'lut is a composite animal that takes the form of an orca when in water and a form of a wolf when on land. One such creature is in trouble in the Ijuguk Napâttulik, Forest of Ghost. Can you save it?

* NOTE: *

The game requires a decent hardware. GTX 1050 and better is recommended. The graphics are mix of free & paid assets and Unity's High Definition Render Pipeline magic. :)

* UPDATES: *

24/04/2020: Based on the comments, I have added "objectives menu". When the player presses the TAB key, it will show him the current objective.

Any chance you can build for mac or html5?

Hi, thanks for comment! It would be nice but I cannot do so unfortunately. :/ Mac build would require me to have a Mac and since I am using a Unity's High Definition Render Pipeline, web build is also not technically possible.

You could upload to a better cloud site, maybe google drive, so we can download faster. Unless you want us to pay to uloz.to, it takes one and half hour. Stejně si to stáhnu ;)

Uloz.to is blocked for germany and after a quick google i think its europe in general. Might be worthwhile to give an alternative.

Akhlut makes a very good job on the mood department.
Also props for taking the risk and using that cursed HDRP :)

I had a hard time figuring out what needs to be done though.
Would love some more, precise, (or more prominent? maybe I missed them) hints on what needs to be done.
Also got stuck once and then poor Akhlut died on me :C

Thanks a lot for feedback @damagefilter. You are right, the explanation of "what needs to be done" should have been made more clear. :) Poor Akhlut, it is a tough life for him. :D

@burg113 ~~Can you please try the primary download link?~~ Edit: Great, I see it worked. Thanks a lot!

The mood of this game is really great, I really wanted to save Akh'lut but I couldn't. I think your game lacks of indications, I quickly found myself lost after having found a half wolf but then I just saw ghosts and died.

Cool graphics, sounddesign and effects, but a bit lagging on gtx1050. Unreadable down text, too hard to understand your story. I was killed without any reason. Ghosts were far away. Ceep on going, increase game performance and it will become really good!

I’d enjoy it! The game have good mood due to interesting sounds and cool graphics. I liked the concept of a creature with two forms.

The camera's twitchy movements is a hindrance. I got stuck in logs and other small parts on the ground. If you quickly press shift, you can make jerks, even if the acceleration has ended.
I was lost in the woods periodically. Maybe some visual landmarks could help me.

I liked the mechanics. Two tasks at the same time is interesting. I want checkpoints so that I don't have to start from the beginning every time.

Hello, thanks a lot everyone for the comments. :) I have released a first small update which allows the player to see the current objective. If there will be time in the future, I will try to improve also other things.

Wait, why there is no possibility to score you for graphics? I wanted to give a high score here :/ And btw, even on my gtx 1650 I have maybe 20fps at best. Lighting looks neat through.

Thanks a lot everyone! :) The graphics category is omitted since the models are not mine.
